help with home nas
« on: May 23, 2012, 05:33:34 PM »
i recently got a mede8er med500x2.
i also have an wdlive-plus which i'm using now.
previously i just streamed my content to my wdlive player and it worked great.
what i want to know now is , can i run them both at the same time without it being sluggish ?
i'm a total noob with networking aswell.

what i have. celeron dual core 2.8ghz cpu, 3gb ram and 4 x 1tb hdd's in my pc.
do i need a 'switch' with an seperate router to run both smoothly.?
also any other hardware needed for the setup.

thanks in advance !  :)

If you are trying to stream HD material to both devices at the same time you should have Gigabit-Ethernet.

Also if you are encoding  / decoding / remuxing the files on your PC for the receiving clients it might be your pc reaches cpu limits.

So check that out.

Let me know a bit more about what you are trying to do / what kind of files you are streaming.
