You're right there are always multiple factors, but v3 is just faster than v2. I'm fairly sure I tested this with the jellyfish videos when I was on 2008 (and using v3). My homeplugs are the big issue, for example tcp is actually faster than udp using them, however v3 was still good enough to get around even this bottleneck. I'd love to know what it is about the 2012 implementation of nfs that's causing it to mess up though, in case there is a setting somewhere that would get it working with the mede8er again.
Also not being able to fast forward or skip mkvs with nfsv2 is a major issue, it's basically unusable. So with 2012 it's samba or nothing, which is definitely slower than nfsv3.
Thinking about it though, I'm screwed either way. At best I could never top 55mbps, which isn't enough for 3d. Might have to start saving for some new gigabit homeplugs.
