I'm having the exact same issue.  I'll circle back if I figure anything out.

That would be excellent. I think I have a lead on why it is like this tho. I think its necessary to install  identity management for unix that will require DC  ...including DNS ...  if you figure out another way let me know.
I havent tried this yet... but I might have to to get this to work.

I got it to work, but you'll need the above... its a pain. And its not 'recommended' to run DC and DNS on your storage server... but you can... and then u can share NFS from windows server 2008 / 2012

So, I already have a domain controller in my home network.  It is in another box that hosts the domain and is also my Exchange server.  So, what exactly did you have to do with UNIX Identity Management to get it to work?  Thanks for your help!

I made a user and gave him an UID and GID ... 500 on both. So when I shared the folder i shared by using UID and GID... value 500.. then it worked ..

Hmm, I'm still having issues.  I used my main username and on the DC I assigned  a UID and GID of -2.  I then shared folders using NFS server and designated the same UID and GID.  I can still see the top level folder, but nothing below.  I also tried using a UID and GID of 0.  Is there something special about the UID and GID of 500 that you chose to use?  It is frustrating because my wife's Macbook can connect via NFS and see everything fine.  Ideas?

I realize I can install Windows 7 and HaneWIN and use those settings and it will work fine.  The entire point of this thread, however, is to get NFS working with Windows Server 2012.  I may just give up and go the HaneWIN route for simplicity, however.

Im not sure what -2 does, but my shares worked perfectly when i used UID=GID=500

Hi,

after one week of trying different solutions on my HP Microserver with Windows 2012 Essentials i have found a solution!
The integrated NFS server in Windows 2012 is a useless piece of [CENSORED]! I can read and write NFS shares from Mac OS 10.8.3, but my MED600X3D can see just shared folder header but nothing inside the folder...
One and only 3rd party solution is Allegro NFS for me. You can download 30 day trial from here (the full version costs 65 USD):
http://www.nfsforwindows.com/home
Very easy set-up, small, and WORKING!  Befor installing don't forget to uninstall any other NFS servers and services.

The problem with 2012 essentials is that it uses the light version of AD = LDAP. You have to use unix management rights to let the mede8ter connect successfully to the server... in other words you need a full version of windos 2012 server.
But I agree with you ... it was a pain in the neck to get that to work aswell....
