Works with Toshiba Stor.E Canvio 3.5" Desktop (P/N HDWC130EK3J1), after erasing/converting to GPT/creating 1 NTFS partition using Win8. I had to chkdsk /f the disk to get it recognized (there was a few index errors although I ejected it), v2.00 firmware is very sensitive to NTFS errors. Also, I had to plug the disk before powering on the X3D or it would'nt be recognized either. Next step, being able to access it through Samba!

I confirm.
I got this unit also and after having made a full wipe on it then having recreate the table partition using GPT instead of MBR via Windows 7 plus having formatted it with NTFS, we can access the whole 3TB storage space.

thx

Hi all-

Brand new to the forum and am considering purchase of MED1000X3Dů.  However, I am confused as to what if any 2TB internal hard drives work.  I read through this thread and still can't figure it out.  Is there a compatibility list somewhere i have overlooked?

Thank you!!

2TB should be normally general ok - this thread is about 3TB or higher.

Ok, Thanks.  But, is there a internal HD compatibility list somewhere?  I looked around the forum and couldn't find one.   Certainly, not every 2TB Internal HD will work?

Thanks

Has anyone tried the 4TB red drives in the med1000X3D?  They were on sale last week, so I was tempted to get one.   But in the end the uncertainty if it would work stayed my hand...   Of course what I really want is an 8TB Red drive, but they don't even make those yet.

Earlier this year, they were talking about a RED 5TB by end of  2013.  ;D

I have a

WD My Book 3TB
WCC1T0664776
FW 1.042

Formatted with NTFS under Windows 8 64-Bit
and is is not found by my 600X3 with latest FW 3.
Should this work?

Update: migrated from mbr to gpt, now it works  :)

Lot's of PC issues.

1) The PC boot process starts with the motherbaord booting using the motherboard bios. That can have code that  deals with USB drives for boot purposes well before the operating system is loaded. That code may not like that 4 TB drive, it would depend on the age of the PC.  There may be a setting you  can change in the bios to  get around this, such  as turning off Boot from USB.

2) Your USB controllers may  also not like the drive unless it is detected by hot docking.  That is also a problem  for some motherbaords and the player in Slave Mode, which also  has to  be powered up  first before connecting.  This also  depends upon the age of the pc.

XP and large disks is a problem (bigger then 2TB)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2581408

Also the bios of the pc needs to support it.....

Thanks, then i understand that the problem is OS. not the hdd. The final use of this hdd when i copy the 4tb of movies in it is having always connected to the med8er 600x3d in the usb port and occasionally plug it to pc for erase movies. Then if the problem is not the hdd i have not problem.

After many tests and download drive settings software from seagate i had got return the 4tb seagate expansion drive, the reason is that i need to unplug and plug the ac adapter of the drive every time that i turn on the med8er600 for the drive appear on the usb listed ond med. i try using drive settings software for set the power saving to never but no changes. I have four wd mybook essentials (2, 2, 1.5 and 750) and never had problems with pc and med8er. Now i had buy a 3tb wd my book essential external hdd but i see some post before that is possible that i have problems with the gpt or mbr format, i dont understand this, can anybody explain me the way to change from mbr to gpt and if i need to make it? I have a pc with windows xp.
Thanks.
