Streaming photos

Has anyone had experience streaming photos on the 1000X3D?
I want to be able to view my photos from my collection taken on various cameras and have filetrees with up to 4-sub folders.
Will I be able to view the thumbs of the photos - or even access them? I'd be happy to copy from my hard drive to an internal HDD, but want to retain the filetrees. I'm putting off purchasing  a streamer until I can be sure of  the access I want.
