Just Got the MED1000x3d in USA overview
« on: August 23, 2012, 04:33:19 PM »
I just got and hooked up the unit, I love the look, and the build is very nice. The hard drive bay works well and the drive has not gotten super hot ( a little hot but not as bad as most external USB enclosures) It is a little quirky on some things.
On 1.0.3 release 8/22
1.) One thing I noticed Lyp sync for me had to be turned off, if left on DTS-HD tracks would cause audio and video to be stuttery and unstable. No lyp sync worked great.
2.)I have a ton of handbrake apple tv rips that play perfect on apple tv, ntv550, htpc, etc. But on this unit it starts with the 2 channel audio track from the atv preset in handbrake, if I switch to the aac 5.1 track the video will freeze on a frame and the audio will continue?? It does it on all of them about 20 or so videos? Played with all the settings no luck getting them to play.
3.) Seems to also have issue with hd audio above 5.1? I have a few movies with 6.1 or 7.1 and the audio will drop and not come back on. The reciever shows no audio track when it drops. It is pretty consistent a minute or 2 in the audio drops, if I pause and start playing sometime it will re-sync. sometimes not. I am going to move the files to the hard drive to test to ensure not a network issue, but i do not think it is, I have streamed 3d iso with dts-hd with no issues. It seems to be the 6.1 and 7.1 audio tracks that cuase the issue. These tracks all work on xbmc, ntv550. So i am sure it is not the file.

I do love the menu system, the build quality, remote is not bad, not great, need to point at pretty good not the best range.
I REALLY want this unit to work for me, I love the 3d iso option but need to get the small issues worked out. I have not done forced subtitle test, etc. I do not watch much with subtitles. The menu system is pretty fast, and good looking for a streamer. It is pretty much silent, and not sure if mine is broken but no lights on the front which is great for the theater room, I thought the little v on the front lit up, but mine does not??
Anyway any suggestions to work on the issues above would be awesome, I am ready to try to make this unit the streamer we all want (for local content anyway) I think it can be.

Thanks for this feedback from USA. Comments in red

1.) One thing I noticed Lyp sync for me had to be turned off, if left on DTS-HD tracks would cause audio and video to be stuttery and unstable. No lyp sync worked great. Suggest setting is 'off' and this function is really for PCM stream direct to TV as all HDMI based amps have this option built in
2.)I have a ton of handbrake apple tv rips that play perfect on apple tv, ntv550, htpc, etc. But on this unit it starts with the 2 channel audio track from the atv preset in handbrake, if I switch to the aac 5.1 track the video will freeze on a frame and the audio will continue?? It does it on all of them about 20 or so videos? Played with all the settings no luck getting them to play. If you can upload a sample we can investigate this Also suggest you use HDMI Auto to pass AAC 5,1
3.) Seems to also have issue with hd audio above 5.1? I have a few movies with 6.1 or 7.1 and the audio will drop and not come back on. The reciever shows no audio track when it drops. Sounds like a network problem your side as both Dolby True HD and DTSMA works flawlessly

I do love the menu system, the build quality, remote is not bad, not great, need to point at pretty good not the best range.
Check the user manual  Page 12

The X3 only has LED's on the top Nav buttons

Thanks I am using the hdmi auto, I will let you know once I copy the files to the HDD if it is network on the 6.1 and 7.1. Odd thing is the 3d iso was a larger bitstream than the 6.1 and 7.1, and it worked great. It is a 3d iso with dts-hd audio track, about the highest bitrate out there and the box handled it great!! It also does the dark night well, which was a torture test for other players. I will try to get a smaller version of the apple tv files I have, they are all around 3 -4 gb. I tried the Micca ep600g2 and it would not even play the apple tv videos. And it had way more issues with stability etc. I do really like this unit, I think it will be great. My other files are all MKV and other than the 6.1 and 7.1 issue they all seem to work great so far, the ISO playback has also been good, starting the right track on every one I have tried so far. I did look at page 12, I need to mess with it, I have it on top of my cabinet now about 3 feet of the ground, I will play with position since I will now make a home for it in my av center.

Just to add some thing to prevent misunderstanding:
with HDMI Auto the Auto setting on the Audio HDMI is meant.

Yup, I have the audio section set to hdmi auto, if i set it to passthrough it would not play the 2 channel audio on the m4v rips.
The files with the audio dropping are direct makemkv from my blu ray disc, no re-encoding just straight rips to MKV container. I do have the iso on one of them as well, I will test the iso to see if it does the same thing.
The files do play fine on my other streamer and xbmc, But I like this box, want to move to this for all my local content.

Suggest you post some media info output of such a file to get an idea and also upload some sample on mede8er ftp as Mede8er1 suggested.

Sounds like it could be a X3 compatibility issue with MKV inc HD Audio or the writing Application - To confirm this can you try to use tsMuxeR and mux the mkv into a m2ts file as a test. We will also do some tests this side.

Seems you are correct and X3 has some upper limit when using very high bitrate MKV inc HD Audio over Samba ie above 35mb/s. Converting to m2ts does fix this problem. Short term I suggest you mux your files to m2ts and we will investigate this.

kpump,

What source are you using to stream from?
Is it a NAS or a pc?

If its a nas, is that one capable of streaming nfs?

Then that might be a thing to try with the high bitrate mkv files.
NFS will have less overhead and so the max streaming speed is a bit higher.
It might be enough to stream those files.

Good Idea, I use a unraid server I will try nfs, I am pretty sure it will use NFS.
Thanks on the m4v, I will stop using the atv preset and make sure no variable bitrate. At leat I know now! thanks!
