Database
« on: July 19, 2012, 03:42:48 PM »
I hope your new model can handle a global Moviedatabase:

What do i mean.
I have a NAS with 4 disks. On each disk i have folders.

Your currents Streamers are not able to combine different drives to one database.
So you can make an XML search only on every several drive.

I don`t want to make a Disk string on my Nas, because when one disk fails, the whole Data will be lost.

So PLEASE, make a integration of ONE database for MORE Sources. Like "MediaPortal" does.

Thanks

Ever heard of Raid redundacy on disk volumes?
Read the  Mede8er 400X/500X Beginners Guide
or Mede8er 500X2/400X2/450X2 Beginners Guide

Also check the Couto X3D Newbies Guide first.

Please don't PM me but post on the forum.

yes of course, but

my 4 x 3TB disk`s are full, i cannot transfer 12 TB to elsewhere and then make the raid, to copy the files back after it.
and if i do so

the time will come and i need a second NAS, what`s then?
same problem.

your systems are not able to make one database for both nas

where is the problem to do so? you have enought space in MED500X2 (internal HDD) to inplement this feature

It's a question of priorities.  A shared database has to handle removable media. It's not impossible..but it's not 5 mins work either.

that`s what i want to hear, that you even think about it

in time of Full-HD, DTS-HD, 3D .... it`s a matter of time, when 12 TB are fully and storage capacity on one NAS will be on maximum...

yes i can buy a NAS with 8 bay`s.....

but i think you anderstand what i mean!?

If I understand correctly; if you're looking at getting a new NAS anyway, may I recommend unRAID which allows for gobs of storage (up to 24 drives, install as needed) and offers "user shares"?  This way you are not at the mercy of the streamer to "combine" all your folders into one share or view.

FYI, I am not affiliated with Lime Tech nor have a stake in their success, but been a very happy client for many years (built my own) and have used it with a wide variety of streamer brands and models with success.
