It seems I have to activate NAS mode on my MEDE8ER1000X3D to access my HDD over the network, but there is no choice on the network menu under SETUP. Is it somewhere else or does it have a weird name?

There are two servers.  There is the Samba server..which is controlled  by the Samba setup, and the DLNA DMS controlled by the DLNA section.

Turn the samba process on, it's in the network section of the setup menu

strangely enough± I still can not find the USB or HDD from my PC. On the good side: I did find the PC from the MEDE8ER... So we are making progress here.

When using WINSHAre however+ I still can not find the MEDE8er HDD and USB

Can the player find itself in Network?  It should be part of Workgroup if the Samba server is working correctly. You might need to power cycle the router during setting this up.

Yes, the player can find itself on workgroup¨, but not the computer. On the computer, I can see de MED1000X3D as a multi/media device only, but i can not open it (he start media player when i do that?)

Problem solved! Apparently, the network server needed a reboot...
