Hi everybody,
following the trails of this
thread, I'm polishing up a little utility that could partially solve the initial user request: be able to "filter" movie contents based on the "watched" indicator, thus having the "yet to be seen" files available at a glance.
Without modifying the Mede8er's firmware, there are two ways you can achieve this result:
- Build a virtual Jukebox database (mede8er.db), place it in a folder on his own and link it to your favorites. Accessing this "virtual" catalog you'll see only those movies that have no watched (the eyes…) indicator.
- Build a standard database, tweaking its genre list and adding a new, fake, genre ("WATCH_ME", for instance) to those movies that have no watched indicator; doing so you'll be able to use the XML search of the Jukebox to filter and select your movies, based on this fake genre
First solution is the best one for those using only the Jukebox (flat view), with no "genre" or "A-L, M-Z" subfolders, and willing to retain normal use of the XML search facility, i.e. not tampering with fake genres…
Solution number two, on the other hand, is viable for those users that have a complex directory structure and not make use of the flat Jukebox view, relying on their structure to "filter" contents; they can still use, on each folder, the XML Search to get all the "unwatched" movies at once.
The scanner works without your mede8er being turned on, is pretty fast and can produce a standard mede8er.db database along with the virtual or tweaked one.
Jukebox Scanner, that's the name of the tool, will be available soon (very soon…) on this pages and through my
website.
Cheers,
