Hi Guys,

I recently had a lot of 8mm home movies from my late fathers estate copied to DVD and Hard Drive.   These were done by a studio who have the equipment to do the coversions.

These new files are in AVI format on both the DVD and Hard Drive.

These files play just fine my DVD and home computer.    I copied the AVI files to my MEDE8ER 500X so that I could view them on my big screen TV.

Unfortunately I get an "unsupported video" error when I try to play them on the MEDE8ER 500X...........

Any suggestions why these peticular AVI files won't not play?    I have a lot of other AVI files that work just fine.

Best regards,

Bill

AVI is a container, not a video format. You should check what format have those tape been converted to.
Assuming you're a Windows user, you may download a program like MediaInfo to get things sorted out.

Hi Mognons,

Thanks for the quick reply.   I was not aware (newbie) that AVI was only a container.    But it helped explain something for me.

The AVI files from the 8mm (film) conversions were HUGE.    They were about 4 gig for 20 minutes of video.   I figured the huge size was due to "no compression" to the video file.

I have a "Video Conversion" program by ACDSee.   I converted the AVI video file to an AVI video file........

The file converted to AVI about 1.6 gig (some compression applied) and now works just fine........

Thanks again,

Bill
