But why isn't it there when the mede8er hasn't played a file yet?

Becuase you have made a connection. It's sitting there outputting a null PCM stream. My amp says it's getting Dolby Pro logic. The PCM stream does not start and stop with what you are doing..only the information in the stream changes.

Did the mede8er med500x work differently?

I brought the player back to the store today and put the med500x back at work. What a relief, no more hiss or obnoxious popping of my speakers...

The med500x also works with passthrough though... Strange this one does not have any noise problems at all.

Beats me...

Jer1956? Maasbommel? You guys any idea why the older mede8er doesn't have this problem?

Thanks for replying.

It's dosn't have an audio buffer..so it clips off audio at the beggining of tracks.   The X2 has an audio buffer to make sure the stream dosn't stop..a problem users had if they paused.  Before the audio buffer was added, the audio pipeline would then have to be restarted and was often out of sync after a resume.

Theres is no contests when it comes to music..the X2 buffering is vastly superior.

Alright, thanks, that explains it some more... Maybe in time I'll just buy a new amp so I can get a new mede8er too. Tongue

I have a new receiver now, the Onkyo NR-616, and I don't have any hissing sounds anymore. It's set to "Direct".

Before I also had the hissing sounds with my Pioneer VSX-520.

Well, it seems to me Mede8er needs to look into this and resolve it.

It's a config issue..as others are pointing out. With the correct settings on some kit the problem goes away..and with most kit the problem isn't even there!  There are all kinds of config issues when you mix kit, such as audio sync issues mixing 3D tv's with non 3D kit.

My very old Yamaha has never had issues with codec switching and passthrough. It's as if back then they expected to deal with sources designed to work in different ways..and built in the tolerence to cope. Todays amps aren't..they expect sources to  work in a manner which  complements the design..and if is dosn't you get all kinds of noises instead.
