Hi all,

Since a couple of days I have a problem with the hard drive in my mede8er (450X2). When I try to access the drive from my mac (the HD is mac formatted) I get the message that the drive is damaged and that it can't be repaired.

So it looks like that my hard drive is damaged...Only the weird thing is that I can still play all the files from the mede8er on my tv without problems. If the hard drive really is damaged, I would say that it shouldn't be possible to access the files on the mede8er (I suppose???).

Has someone a solution for this problem or is my Hard Drive really damaged and have I lost all the files on it?

Are you using 2.1.0? That has an NTFScheck  function which  tell you something.

I'm using 2.1.0. When I want to use the NTFScheck function (red button at devices) nothing is happening...Probably because the drive is HFS+ formatted, so a NTFScheck can't do anything...

I suggest to put in some usb device (stick or disk) and retry.
The routine needs to see an usb attached device even if you want to run it on an internal disk.

But if the internal disk is HFS formatted, then running NTFSfix will do no good..... wrong format type for that utility.

I guess you need to find some MAC HFS+ filecheck utility.....

I don't think HFS journal  files are supported,  so a Med could damage that and continue to  work. A MAC might object to  the corrupted journal.

NTFScheck is working with an usb, so it is working (only not with a HFS formatted drive). I tried to access the HD from  a windows pc (with MacDrive), also the same error (damaged).

So, the only option seems to format the drive and start all over. Is there only a way to rescue the files from the Hard Drive? The mede8er can still see the files, so I think there has to be a way to save the files as they are still there. Anyone???

Rico

You could try to copy them to an external drive with the built in File Manager

It worked, only problem was that I only had a slow 4gb usb as external drive to copy the files to. Because it would take ages to transfer all the files to my pc I decided to just format the drive and start all over (movies can be downloaded again and I used the drive as backup for images that are still on my pc. So, would rather not erase the drive, but it is just the easiest solution).

A benefit is that I now formatted the drive to NTFS so that my family can now also access the HD without problems. To use the HD on my mac I am now using Paragon. I use the trial now, full version is $20,- . If i can't find a free solution, 20 bucks is well worth the money (but hope to find a free solution before the trial ends).

Thanks for the help!
