I'm gonna order myself a MED450X2 today and I've already programmed my Logitech Harmony One remote for it and also prepared a network cable for it.

But, since we are two families sharing the same ADSL connection I can't use the name WORKGROUP for my familys workgroup. Simply because I don't want the other family to get access to our shared files. Is it possible to choose another workgroup name in the MED450X2? And how do I do it?

Workgroup is not for security. It only affects Network Discovery..limiting those devices which  get displayed automatically. If you request a Full Map on any PC you will then see all the devices irrespective of the workgroup name.

The only way to get securty is to have a password protected server..which  the X2 dosn't support.

Ok. So I CAN use another name for the workgroup and it will work even though it's not protecting my integrity?

The X2 workgroup name can't be changed. I wouldn't try to secure devices one by one in your situation.  I would look at daisy chaining networks..so the first is just an internet access point for the second.  This is called bridging. You should keep the password for the second routers setup access.....and  use a different WAP security code as well.

 Undecided

I have the modem and router in my house, and my neighbour has one internet cable connected to my router. Can I block that one so it can't access the computers connected to the other three ports that my family use? I have a TP-Link router (TL-R402M).

Thanks for helping me out here. MUCH appreciated.

Check out the router manual  and see if  it  supports VLAN.  You might be able to create a sepereate network on the one port your neighbour is using.

I've checked all the settings in the router and it looks like it doesn't support VLAN.

Complicated problems have solutions normally in higher end models. Most home users don't want to pay for such  facilities as VLAN.  Your model isn't supported by third party firmware such DD-WRT either..which users  of cheaper modems can change too once they realise  life isn't as simple as they first thought.

Maybe I should invest in a new router then. Or just disconnect my neighbours cable and tell him that it must be something wrong with his ethernetcard or computer!

No other solution that you can think of?

If you like tp-link modem/routers go to their web site and find ones which support VLAN.  Thne see how cheaply you can get one on the internet etc..

I would also  download the manual for one of the VLAN modem/routers..and read the section on VLAN..to confirm you can do what I suggest. If not sure, post on the TP-link forum.

I checked ..you need a  DSL cable modem/router..and tp-link don't have a VLAN equipped model.

I don't think you will find a cheap option for this. VLAN is appearing on lower end brands..but only for  wi-fi.  The simplest solutions often require  expensive kit.   So  you left trying to run two networks as I first  suggested..by adding a cheaper router which  will do the job.

I'm not sure how to do that. But I have an extra router of the same model that I'm not using. So shall I just connect that router between the neighbours cable and my router?
