I have been having some issues with my MED500X lately - video setting did not stick when shutting off the device, NAS would not turn on, could not connect to the HDD from my laptop. I reloaded the firmware and it fixed all of the problems except  I still cannot connect to the media player via my computer via a network share. I was able to connect until these issues started (which I attribute to some power outages that probably whacked the firmware). I've attached screenshots. Windows network diagnosis says the remote service won't accept the connection. The network connection indicates it's active on the Mede8er network screen. It all looks like it is setup right to me. Any ideas?

I transfer media to the media player over the network (1GB ethernet), so I want to be able to get this working again; using flash drives is a pain.

Did you already try to set your network router off and on again?
Is NAS set to on in Mede8er setup?

Are you able to ping the ip address from your mede8er from PC side?

I have not restarted the router, but that is not the issue. I have two NAS drives on the same switch as the mede8er and I can access both of them fine from any of my computers.NAS is set to On. Ping is responding, 1ms response time.

The router, and other network devices build up caches of information, such as local DNS. Installing firmware can make those device see two versions of the Med becase of this stale data.  So we always recommend power cycling the router in these situations, to clear out old cache data.

Restarted the router. No change. Swapped the router out because it was having issues, replacement is working well. No change. Still cannot connect to Mede8er from computer via network.

Strange.

You might want to try to disconnect the internal disk temporary.
Connect a usb stick or usb drive to it without internal disk connected.
Then set nas option on in setup and check if you can connect to the external usb device over network.

I had a similar issue with my Windows7 PC to my 500X.
I hope that works for you!

If you have another PC or laptop make sure its not just your computer doing it.

My wife's Win7 box worked but mine had the same error as yours. 

I ended up facing the fact that there are no more firmware updates coming out of Mede8er for the #00X line of players and reinstalled win7 to get it working for me....  A big PITA.   Sad

I tried disconnecting the hard drive. No effect. Still no network connection. Ping was still there, but the device is not being recognized. I also tried explicitly turning on NetBios over TCP/IP (from the default of auto), seen in some Microsoft forums as something to try. no effect.

Rebuilding the WIN7 OS is not feasible. Both PCs are 3 months old. Both connected originally, and then one week neither one did. I also do not believe it is related to any Microsoft updates, as I fired up an old PC which hasn't had patches applied since before this went haywire and it could no longer connect either.

How do you try accessing your Mede8er?

I've had problems in the past when trying to access it with the run dialog and using the name (example: \\mede8er), but I managed to connect just fine by IP (example: \\192.168.1.Cool

Try that to see if it works

I tried mapping the mede8er using the IP address instead of the device name. No good.

I also tracked down other networking advice and created hosts and lmhosts entries for the mede8er to avoid WINS and DNS name resolution issues. Still unable to map the internal hard drive.
