this is probably a Noob question  Smiley

The Mede8er has build in functionalities to browse the internet.  However, since there is no kind of  virus protection whatsoever I wonder if  the device (and internal HD) gets exposed to malware (viruses, ...) by surfing the web.

Thanks, Filip

the mede8er is linux (sort of) based, so it's pretty safe regarding viruses.
You can't really browse the Internet, only preconfigured sites are available, thus reducing the risk of running into some "strange" place  Grin

I do it all the time, even though it hangs/reboots the X2 pretty often on some more compex sites (seems to maybe be cookie releated).

Sorry, I've not made myself clear enough: you can visit ONLY the sites configured in section Internet Media, you CANNOT type an address somewhere and visit ANY site.
Or can you?  Huh

My fault: I didn't think of Goggle... You should be able to reach almost any site searching for it in Google...

Never mind, the point stands: mede8er is linux based, thus the risk of getting "infected" is quite low...

I confess: I never use Internet Media cause I don't want to connect a USB keyboard and mouse to my mede8er and without keyboard and mouse there's not a lot you can do...

I take it the mede8er is pretty safe to browse the internet with, even without virus protection.

Thanks guys  Smiley

Hi,
Probably a silly question but... how do I navigate google with just the remote or is this not possible?
Thanks in advance.

You can change between scroll and input mode with the remote control using the color buttons on the remote.
See the layout of the remote control in the user manual and check the color button descriptions.

Browsing the internet - Is it safe Huh

yeah .. is it safe .   .. bu it will depends for who ?  Grin Grin Grin

regarding browsing to http: 's others then the ones embedded inside fw :  you can do it very well (it is more hard to type then to browse )   but mede8er wasn't build as a  www browser or navigator .
it was made to be used with web pages optimised for this type of machines.

if is it safer for viruses ? yes .... this fw it's linux based and no viruses problems

but if you have internal storage this can be attacked and store scripts that can infest your other devices based on any OS.

usually this scripts can be easily detected and removed but you never know .
a good antivirus is good until only one virus will pass his guards .... then that antivirus isn't that good anymore  Wink  Grin Grin
