I've been having problems with my 400X2. After playing some files, the machine freezes, or responds very badly/slowly to the remote control. needs to power off many times before i can play a couple of files again. there have also appeared all kinds of folders wich should be single files. It used to be fine after I upgraded once or twice, so wich is the best one to rollack to? this behaviour has been since a couple of upgrades. running now the beta version .07

If you have problems with 2.0.7 I would go back to 2.0.4 . I would strongly advice that you use NTFSfix to repair your journals (see the post under fimrware download from jer1956). It seems, as you have the file to folder bug that you had on some stage 2.05. or 2.0.6 installed.
For my part I would say that the 2.0.7 is stable. Didn't find any errors in it. When do you have the problem with the restarts/freezes?

If you have problems with anything earlier than 2.0.7, the only response you'll get is - "First upgrade to 2.0.7 and test again". So what's the point of running anything earlier anymore?

Videophiles are happy with 2.0.3..becuase they find nothing for them in the firmware since then.
That dosn't mean 2.0.3 is "supported". Understanding how to make the current firmware tick is a problem in itself..without rembering every little trick needed to make earlier ones work to their best.

no, it has been good, after I bought it and after one or two upgrades. I noticed at some point the music stopped playing while browsing folders. after an update. with this update the problems started en got worse. very dissapointing .... think this very unstable box is going back to the store ..... looks like it broke my harddisk ... I`m not a nerd, can`t do all these operations to fix it and shouldn`t have to ...., just want to play my files easily ....

at random. mainly after getting back from the screensaver, while playing music. sometimes the system needs 2 minutes to respond to the remote. but mostly it just freezes and needs to power off ..... very irritating! it doesn`t happen while using an other (new) harddisk.....

So you have this only when playing from a specific usb disk? You might consider to:
- use latest 2.0.7 version released today - backup files from that usb disk, and do a full format on that problem disk with your pc, so not a quick format. That should rule out any issues you have with that specific usb disk.

No, not if your issues are related to some issues with the file system on that usb disk. As you said you are not really tech skilled - most simple way is to backup/reformat your usb disk. Fastest way however is the more tech way, as described here: http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,8455.0.htmlThat should also work with your usb disk - but only if your issue is related to a filesystem issue.

I never did anything else with the disk, except mount it in the x2. then it got [CENSORED]ed after upgrading as described ..... formatting is no option. can`t move / lose the files.
thanks a lot but this is no help for me

Hi Bram,
Then use the other option that is referred to, to try to fix it, or first make a backup of your files before formatting the disk.
Doing nothing will not solve your problem I am afraid. Swearing also not...

ok...apologies , but I`m entitled to do a little swearing ....
I ve read the steps and can`t do it = can`t burn boot cd-rom = won`t risk my laptop for this, booting some linux into it that alters disk controllers, no way. what if it breaks my laptop? are you gonna write some new tutorial for that too?
isn`t there some windows7 tool to run that can do this?
and how do i plug in the x2 into a usb slot on my laptop? it doesn`t connect .... only the usb drive does ....

Bram,
You have a 400X2 you posted. That has no internal disk, only can stream from network or play from external usb drives.
Or do you have a 500X2 with an internal disk?
My impression was you had a 400X2, and use 2 different usb disks with it. One has an issue, the other not. Right?
You can try to connect the problem usb disk to your pc, and run a disk check on it. (right click on the drive letter in explorer - use then properties - extra - and check the disk filesystem with windows 7)
And if that data on that usb disk is so valuable, think about making a backup next time. A disk can fail, and if we are talking about usb disks - even bigger risk to get dropped.

This is a linux issue. Linux can emulate NTFS..but no linux developer has created tools like chkdsk to fix issues. They rely on windows to do it. NTFSfix is not sanji software..it was created by Linux developers becaues windows can only fix Microsoft compliant NTFS, and somtimes the NTFS emulator does not do that.
The issue with raid settings only effects hot reboots..which bypasses the cold boot which will reset everthing as it should be.
