Sanji are working hard to fix all Known Issues. This tip is for issues specfic to this firmware. More general Tips can be found seperately.  This Tip is meant to help you get the best out of your X2 in the mean time.

Section 5 Explanation of what using 0.0.0.0 for DNS does.

1) NTFS complience

Please read this:-

http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,8455.0.html

We recommend this is done before any new version of firmware is installed, and then go straight from Slave Mode to Emergency Install of the new Firmware.

The most common problem resulting from not maintaining complience is that the Favorites storage file, favlink, gets turned into  a folder. That stops new Favorites being created, and a crash as well. So you need to delete the favlink folder, and recreate your favourites.

2) Using Cable LAN with PCI-E creates 2 IP's.

Connecting cable LAN to a system with PCI-E wi-fi dosn't turn off the wi-fi setup. We believe this started in 2.0.4...so anyone using 2.0.4-2.0.7 could have this problem. This results in 2 IP's..and a large chance that wi-fi will still be used instead of the cable connection. It also creates confusion as DNS records will have two active IP's using the same Network Name.

We suggest the following:-

1) Temporarilly change the routers SSID to "Off".
2) Use one of the other two wi-fi connections slots to make a connection to "Off".
3) Put the routers SSID back to what it was.

So when you want to use wi-fi..use the connection with the Network SSID. When you want to turn if Off, use the connection with OFF for the SSID, as it dosn't exist. When you do this, Wireless will be OFF in setup..Network Details will show the wireless data to be N/A.

3) TV Wall

In order to mask the episode icons the code  has to check if the any jpg has an equivlent video. This check takes some time.
We will look at adding some  conditional tests to the running of this check ASAP.

4)  Music Jukebox Search

An issue has been found if you use Med2key input in the  Music Jukebox Search Tool...Space means "Exit and Start search". So if you need to use "space" in a search expression use "Shift~" "Pd" "Enter" instead.

5) DNS Server Setting

In order to Network properly the X2 needs a DNS Proxy in the system. So the best IP to use in DNS server can be different from system to system. You have to set the DNS server even if using Auto DHCP to get a Lan IP.

The options should be either:-
1) 127.0.0.1 if the X2's Proxy is building a Hosts list as part of a working Network.
2) Your Router IP, if it's got a Proxy DNS server.

If these don't work, 0.0.0.0 is an occasional workaround. This forces the use of Reverse Look-up. The X2 will work it's way  through the default linked DNS servers untill one has a record containing the Name for the IP in question. Normally Forward Look-up is used..where a specific DNS server is asked for the IP allocated to a given Name, which may pass the request on to other linked DNS servers.

The Default is now 127.0.0.1. If Internet Services work, but seems sluggish, and hang occasionally, you should try a different DNS Server setting

You should never use your ISP's DNS server directly. It has no interest in managing the relationship between Name and IP on your local betwork.   Name is used by some networking protocols. Even using an IP shortcut may not work if a Name cannot be identified.

This tip include information on how to find out if you have a DNS Proxy:-
