Hi All,

Just got my 500x2 yesterday and am loving it!  Just a quick question for all you more knowledgeable people out there.  Currently using firmware 2.0.6

I connect to the samba share on the X2 from my computer (no connectivity problems, and it works great).  If I put the box in standby (red LED?), I lose network connectivity, though this is to be expected since everything shuts down.  I read something in this thread http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,6352.0.html about a "green led"?

Is this some sort of active standby where network functions are active, but other processes are shut off?  Does it exist?  How do I activate this if it does?

If all is available is on (blue) or standby (red), is there any risk to the machine if I leave it on 24x7?

Thank you ahead for any assistance

Standby gives a red led - Mede8er OS is down.
When led is blue - mede8er OS is running
There is no green led - that is an error in the post you referring to.

You only have on, or standby = off
When you cut power - no led - totally off.

What is the need to keep it always on?
You normally only put it on to watch some media - as it is in the basics a media player - not a NAS.
The NAS function is very basic and this function is normally for transfering files to play - not for other things.

Thank you for the quick and complete reply, it is much appreciated.  As for leaving it on, the X2 is currently located in my parent's house, several houses down the road from where I live. I have a network connection to them to control all their computers, and now the X2 just to drop their daily shows for them to watch.  I am unable to walk, so going back and forth to turn it on and off could get irritating, and explaining them to push the on button gets them all frustrated (and me as well).

I can work around it, but just wondering if there would be some hazard to the box if we just left it on all the time.

Leaving it on should be no problem if its not build in and air flow throught the fan is free flowing.

Be aware that the X2 has no ftp, only windows filesharing.
So that means you need to use some local network to transfer files.
Ftp transfer is not possible over the internet.

Thank you again for all your help.  Great to know.  The windows filesharing is more than adequate for now.  I'm getting about 9.5MB/s which is to be expected since they only have a 100Mbps switch over there and with tcp/ip overhead, that is pretty much hitting the limit of the link.
