My 500X hard drive doesn't show up either via my TV or if I connect to a PC. I have a 1TB hard drive installed but it won't show up..

Did it ever worked?
Check cable connections in the mede8er by opening the cover on the bottom.

Yes, it worked previously. I even tried connecting to a PC, doesn't pick up the drive. I updated my software on a few months ago

Only way to verify what is going on is to remove it from the 500X and connect it directly on a PC Sata cable.

Could be all kind of things:
- defect disk
- issue with the filesystem on the disk
- issue with 500X mainboard

You could also try to connect over the netwerk by telnet as described here to verify if you see the disk:
