I'm a huge fan of the Mede8er. I had a MED500 for about three years but it was stolen a month ago. Luckily my insurance replaced it with a MED500X2...

The new mede8er came with a pre-installed 1Tb Hard Drive.

The new X2 has many great new features and additional functionality, Awesome. Except it's slow while navigating through the menus.

I've also had multiple freezes. At least three or four a day!
This happens at random times, while navigating through the menus, using the delete function or when it has the screen saver on and I reactivate it with the remote.
When the freezes happen I have to reboot using the power cable. This is annoying.

I've installed the latest firmware but this has had no effect.

I'm used to the speed and reliability of the old MED500 so I expected at least the same if not better from the new MED500X2.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the slow speed and freezes?

The code is more complex...and the faster processor dosn't compensate. The freeze issues you mentioned where a big problem with 2.0.4 developement.  you should upgrade to  2.0.4/2.0.5 to get the benefit of changes which addressed the issue.

Thanks, That explains the Slower speeds and I can livewith that. It's the freezes that are realy annoying.

I formated the hard drive using the Mede8er and upgraded the FW to 2.0.5 the day I recieved the new machine so it's been freezing with the new FW.

Any other ideas?

2) Do you have images from Facebook on your Hard Drive or Network?

NAS is the Samba server for sharing your internal hard drive over the network. 2.0.5  has new NAS code which also manages screensaver and spin down problems (because it suffered the most from them) ..which  can make a system more stable.
