For some reason my brand new 500x2 (F/W V2.03 purchased feb 2012) won't output to hdmi. Falling back to  composite + coax sound to my bose V25 receiver. I see/hear no difference in quality and I am tempted to stay with this set up.
Any good reason why I should turn the device in (again!) for repair ? Am I missing functions for instance ?

Put in other words: I know the manual says Composite is next best to hdmi, but does it really make a difference on a 40 inch LCD TV.

It makes a huge difference.. Composite isn't even the best format for SD analog video.  You can only output HD by component or HDMI..and HDMI works for most people.

Loss of HDMI often occurs when you have a bad  flash..and that can happen at the factory..not just as home when yopu upgrade the firmware.

Can you give us more details..according to the Tech Section guldelines. I will move thsi post so that you can read the sticky.

Both tests were done after the unit was returned from repair.  In repair because Initial test with hdmi output failed. My former system was a 500x which always worked with my TV set over hdmi.

Test 1: HDMI to A/V Receiver

Product & firmware version: Mede8er MED500X2 f/w v2.0.3
Audio: HDMI  >  Bose lifestyle V25
Audio setting:  unknown (could not check)
Video: HDMI output > Bose lifestyle V25 > Sony Bravia 3 40" KLV40V550
Video setting: unknown
Media Source: Wired Network > Windows 7 shared folders
Result: No picture at all on TV

Test 2:  HDMI direct to TV

Product & firmware version: Mede8er MED500X2 f/w v2.0.3
Audio: Coaxial output > Bose V25 A/V Receiver
Audio setting:
Video: HDMI output > Sony Bravia 3 40" KLV40V550
Video setting: unknown
Media Source: Wired Network > Windows 7  shared folders
Result: At start, for 20-30 sec the blue/white logo of mede8er shows on TV, then signal stops.

Different hdmi cables were used in the tests.

When using analog..could you get to the Deep colour setting? It you can, turn it off  Or are most video settings unreadable/unset?

I note this went through RMA. Did they say they actually repaired it, or was it returned fault not found?  (third option is they didn't tell you! Undecided)

I have spoken to Sanji, they exchanged my faulty one for a new one. So the new one has the same problem.  Will proceed with them directly. (Live close to their HQ)

And deep color was already: off

Thanks anyway for your help.

Two with the same problem?  I know they have had a batch with SATA problems ,but not HDMI.

Do you connect up with the TV on?  HDMI is "live"..even in standby.

I meant when you first set up with HDMI..did you connect the cable between the X2 and the TV, with the TV on, or in standby?

The safest option with HDMI is to connect up with everything really off..not standby...but trully "no mains" off.

Also did connect hdmi between mede8er and tv with all power off. Same results.

BTW chaged to component cable which works flawlessly.  Will next week bring the kit to Sanji after they have moved to new quarters.

By using different HDMI connectors both on TV (test 1)  as on A/V Receiver (test 2) I got HDMI output on med8er500x2 working.  Can not give explanation for this. You never count on a double error . But it works finally!

For others users with same setup it would help to post which HDMI ports you first used, that gave the issues.
And then post also which port numbers you are now using.

What made HDMI work for me.
Mede8er500X2 to TV:  Changed on TV HDMI port 4 to 2.
Mede8er500x2  to A/V receiver: Changed on Bose lifestyle V25 from HDMI port 3 to port2
