Hi,

I have the following problem.

When I start .mkv movies it sometimes starts playing in fast-forward (I think it is 4x speed).
After a few retries or pauzing/rewinding/playing it works normal again.

Currently I have seen this only on .mkv movies I encoded myself using Handbrake, but not sure if this is related at all.
Also, the behavior of the player is inconsistent. Sometimes a movie will start in fast forwarding, and later the same movie would play at normal speed when started.

MED400X2 firmware 2.0.3.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

StinoV

and read the irrelevant "official" answers. Up to now no intention to solve this bug. One wonders what development capacity the company has set aside for real bug solving. It seems the same procedure as last year when they stopped debugging the first generation 500X and started on the new X2 firmware.

That is not helpful...We keep posting that the latest MKV tools (not produced by Sanji...and probaly tested less than sanji would as well) don't work using Auto FPS, especially 0.9.5 handrbrake. You have to set FPS manually in handbrake.

OK, I can accept it being a problem with the tools I used, if the behavior would be the same each time I try to start the movie.

But what I am seeing:

- The chance of it fast-forwarding is about 1/4. The other forum post seems to suggest it occurs only after booting the device, but I can reproduce it about once every four times I play the file without any reboots in between.

- When the fast forwarding occurs, it can be solved for example by pressing "rewind" once, followed by a "play".

These seem to implicate a BUG. That is why I mentioned "the behavior of the player is inconsistent".

Thanks for fixing this.

Did you already try the suggestion of Jer1956?
If yes, do you still see the same issue?

Hi Maasbommel,

Here is what I did:

- I first tried fixing the FPS to 24000/1001 in MKVmerge and re-wrote the file. This resulted in the same issue.
- Then I re-encoded the movie from the original DVD using Handbrake but with the FPS set to 23,976. This seemed to do the trick, however with this file, there is a frameskip every second, so rather unwatchable. I am having the same problem with other files I did not encode myself.

So, question remains is why with the non-fixed FPS file, it works 3 times out of 4?

Second question is, why is there a frameskip with the correctly encoded file?

Thanks for your reply.

Sounds like a movie that is shot with real 24fps rate somehow and not with 23,976 fps that is normal.

Have not seen that kind of movies in my own collection, so hope Jer1956 has a clue howto handle this.

If you using handbrake with a 23.9/24 hz DVD..it must be NTSC. You should reasd this about using the detelecine filter in handbrake,

Thanks for your replied.

Again an update...

The frameskip in the recoded file is there in VLC as well, so I checked the source (DVD) and that one is 25FPS it seems.
So I recoded with a fixed FPS of 25FPS and that works now.

Still would like to know why I only sometimes get the "fast-forward" playback for the files where the FPS was set to autodetect?

Sometime just identifying that something has an issue is the best we can do. The Handbrake issue was flagged by users of other mediaplyers.

I had the same issues when I was testing my parents WDTV2.  I used handbrake to encode over 200 movies just to save some space, and the movie would fast forward if I tried to change the subs or language.  So, I stopped using Handbrake all together.  I use MakeMKV for DVD movies, ClownBD for Blu-Ray movies, and AnyDVD HD for SD TV Shows for ISO's.  Never had a problem again.

I have not seen this problem since installing 2.0.4.

Lupissimo, if you are still monitoring this, can you confirm this as well?

With all the 2.04 problems I shall for the time being stick to 2.03, especially since I use ONLY Videoplayback. For all other features (Internet, BT, Music, etc) I have dedicated hardware, which is easier to handle. Therefore I cannot comment yet. As soon as the firmware becomes less risky, I will be glad to test again.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Upgraded to 2.0.5 now, and immediately got the fast-forwarding again.
Don't know why it appeared to work in 2.0.4, could be that I was "lucky".
