Hello All,

I have a 500X on wifi. For almost a year now. I'm not using this device very much. Maybe about 4 hours a month.
During the start I saw information about USB wifi on, NAS on, FTP on.
But most of the time some of those 3 are not going on.
I have to restart again and again till they will start all.
I have upgraded to 4.0.5 and it has still the same problem.

When one or two or all these functions are not going on, the settings shows they are off. But when I want to change it to on, it shows it is on. But in the main settings screen it shows off. Selecting on again will not help.

I hope someone knows a solutions.

If wifi is instable, those sevvices will not start.
My guess the root cause is somewhere in that corner.

Try to test with a lan cable in stead of wifi and verify if you see the same then.

Hello Maasbommel,

I've tried. It take a while because I use a wireless dongle because I do not have ethernet connection at this place.
Connecting the ethernet cable didn't solve it. The result is the same. Even with cable and without wifi dongle.

During the test the wifi dongle starts everytime right. But the NAS didn't and the FTP do.
The main problem is when the NAS is not starting the harddrive didn't found any files.
That's strange. FTP starts without files.

When I stop and start NAS manually in settings, the NAS do not start. But I hear the harddrive doing something.
With wifi dongle I can access network and find my synology NAS. I can play music, photo's and films along the network.
It seems that there is nothing wrong with the wifi. It plays fine.

One time, after many reboots, it shows the files on the harddisk. I play music and suddenly it stops. I explore again and again no files visible anymore.

I hope someone has the result for this problem.

Reading this I get two idea:
- there is an issue with your HDD or with the filesystem on it

Did you already try to connect your mede8er by usb cable to your pc and then run filesystem check on it when it pops up, or manually start chkdsk /f to check and repair the filesystem when needed?

Only way to find out is to find a moment and:
- backup your files
- wipe and reformat your disk as described here:
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,633.msg3633.html#msg3633

Refill the disk, first with a small amount of files and check if the problem is still there.
If it is -> It can be both the disk that is having an issue or the mede8er mainboard.

Hello maasbommel,

It tried all you wrote.
First chkdsk f: /f which results in crashes of the mede8er. Sometimes it goes through the proces and it gives many errors.
After an evening of chkdsk operations which results continuously in crashes or different file errors it results in no errors finaly. But everytime the chkdsk is around 17300 it takes a lot of time to proceed.
After some first tests, it seems ok.
But after played some mp3-songs the 500x crashes again.
Again chkdsk but no errrors found.
NAS was not going on again. Also the files cannot be seen on the HD.

There was nothing left than a format. Checking partitions. It was ok. Format via mede8er menu.
I didn't have to reinstall the firmware. This is flashed I think.
The 500x seems ok.
After some tests of turning off and on, it seems that the wifi, NAS and FTP are going on everytime.
But sometimes I turn it off the blue led is going off and it takes maybe 20 seconds before the red led is going on and the HD stops. Strange. Most time I have to press one time on the off button and twice when I played music or pictures. It takes 1-2 seconds to shutdown.

Copying 10GB data via FTP was no problem.
But after maybe 40GB data the 500x crashes again. The FTP is not possible anymore. wifi is working.

Result after a few evenings: the 500x is still not working well.

Do you have some other ideas to solve this problem?

Can you test using an external USB drive..and disconnect the internal drive? This would to see if the hardware..and the firmware where still working normally..or if the internal drive is creating the problem.

Hello jer1956,

I did some small test.
But directly after everything was started right, I tried to play music. It's plays and it stops. The NAS was gone off.
After that no files can be found on the HDD.
Trying to set the NAS on in settings was not succesfull.

Connecting an USB-HD. The information NAS on was displayed directly.
But there were no files displayed on the HDD.
The USB-HD can be seen and played. I played a few songs without any problem.
I played some songs over from my Synology NAS over wifi. No problem.
I didn't do a long duration test, but it looks like the problem is in the HDD or HDD controller on the mainboard?

What can I do?
