(this is a first attempt, a 'living/growing' document)

Menu Language
Set the desired Mede8er menu language

Change system font
User-defined font support – save any TTF font onto the root of your Local HDD or the root of a USB flash drive or the root of a SD Card and rename it font.ttf. Selecting this option you will then be able to choose between the Default font and your Font.ttf file and change the system font used in the GUI and subtitles.

Text Encoding

Set it to the correct value to correct the character support for your language if you are experiencing incorrect characters in subtitles or music tags.

System Update (System Upgrade / Save configuration / Restore configuration )
For all this features an USB Flash Disc (USB Stick) needs to be plugged into one of the 2 available Mede8er USB ports..
o Save configuration: saves all setup values in a file on your USB flash disc
o Restore configuration: restores configuration settings saved with the Save configuration option (loads file from the Flash disc)
o System Upgrade: Used for upgrading or downgrading firmware revisions. Don't use this option if Emergency Recovery Procedure is described in the firmware release notes as the preferred method.
WARNING - Configuration settings are not transferable between firmware versions 1.x and 2.x.

Time
Will synchronise Mede8er to set current time with NTP protocol.
This feature is only functional when your Mede8er is connected by network to the internet.
Set the right time zone and choose a time server.

DVD Auto-Play
Create an “autoplay” folder on internal HDD or USB Stick / SD  Card and load the folder with either music or video files (Do not mix media types, i.e do not mix music with pictures). On start up the Mede8er will automatically launch the “autoplay” folder automatically. ( “autoplay” folder name can be autoplay / Autoplay / AutoPlay)

Angle Mark[ (off / on)
Used when playing a dvd with multi-angle scenes. Select ‘ON’ and enjoy the same scene from all different angles contained in the DVD.

HDD Format
To format your Mede8er internal hard disk. Will create one NTFS partions and several small linux partitions to support Mede8er features.

Hi Jan,

As described:
Quote
Set it to the correct value to correct the character support for your language if you are experiencing incorrect characters in subtitles or music tags.

So if you see no strange things in your subtitles, just leave it on the default (Unicode).
You probably use Dutch language subtitles, so that should be ok.....

In my system info, the HDD size displayed is: 1TB, although I bought a 2TB version (MED500X-2000). HDD Model: Hitachi HDS72202. I did  format the drive after powering on and still using the factory installed firmware (1.2.1). Any advise why the size is displayed incorrect?

This is a bug from this firmware version. It is showing the wrong size, but formatted size is ok.
To get the proper size shown up, just upgrade to latest FW version 2.0.2 and read the release notes of that one.
You will see this bug is mentioned in the release notes.

Just read the Mede8er Beginners Guide, it will give you a good start with your new mede8er when following the setup guide in it.

Cheers Maasbommel, I did already find it in the release notes indeed and the problem was solved after flashing to 2.0.2
Thank you for replying though, it's good to know people care around here (I'm the new guy! Smiley )

The answer is in the faq section of the mede8er beginners guide.
Are you on version 2.0.2?

Look at this topic:
I am not able to format my internal HDD in version 2.0.0 or 2.0.1 or 2.0.2

Shocked I am only trying to point you in the right direction, with or without the point  Grin

The problem you have is a bug in 2.0.2 (or 2.02), in the Howto I mentioned there is a workaround described.
Let's hope this bug will be solved in a future firmware release. (also the type in the version number, because it should be typed as 2.0.2).

Suc6.

Cheers,
