Setting used to configure your digital audio connection when using HDMI, Digital Coax or Digital Fibre-optic connection.
When using only analogue RCA cables you will always get only 2 channel stereo sound, regardless of the settings in this menu.

Maasbommel,

Misschien een foutje m.b.t HDMI LPCM Multichannel omschrijving. Wink

Should it not read:

HDMI LPCM Multichannel: Use this setting when you are playing AAC Multichannel files and you have a audio amplifier attached to your TV with HDMI cable that is capable of playing LPCM Multichannel. (With this setting; AAC Multichannel is outputted as LCPM multichannel)

Hi there,

I'm confused when it comes to the audio setup of the mede8er in my configuration.

I have a Pioneer A/C Receiver (non-hdmi) that I want to use occasionally when I'm watching movies or listening to my music collection. But when I'm watching 'regular' stuff through my mede8er such as downloaded tv shows, I don't need the AV receiver; the tv audio will be just fine for that purpose.

If I understand the manual correctly, this is only possible by changing the audio setup on the mede8er? So it's not possible to have both audio options available at the same time (tv output as well as A/V receiver output)?

Greetings,

Hi,

As far as I know you only have to switch audio setup when using different digital outputs, so to choose between HDMI, or optical or coax.

When using the analog output connections on the mede8er to your audio amp, output will be always there.

You don't tell how you hooked up your AV receiver. How is your setup?

Hi Maasbommel

I think you are the Maasbommel that I recognize from the mvix forum?  I ditched my Mvix Pvr last week, and until now I'm delighted with the mede8er! Nice to see you here!

The Mede8er is connected to the tv with HDMI and to the receiver with an optical connection. When I want to enjoy the receiver's audio I must use SPDIF Passthrough (but then there's no audio coming from the tv). When I want to use the tv speaker output I have to switch back to HDMI PAssthrough.

Hi Gazzpacho,

Yes, I used to be a MVIX PVR owner and was the one that was also on the forum in the past.
Don't ask me how happy I am since I switched to the Mede8er  Smiley  ...... (but you don't have to use much imagination...)

Regarding to your setup you are right, you have to switch from SPDIF Passthrough to HDMI passthrough with this kind of setup.
It is not autosensing....

And a warm welcome to the mede8er community.

Cheers,
Maasbommel

I noticed you own the Netgear  wndr3700. Me too! What a brilliant piece of machinery that is! I bought it together with the mede8er because I was fed up with both the mvix as well as my fairly new Cisco wrt160nl router. Both machines really are a tremendous waste of money. The Netgear is fantastic. It's been up and running for 1,5 weeks now without any loss of speed or connections.

Well, I'm off to crawl behind my tv to see if I can fool around with my audio a little bit more. Thanks for your replies & have a nice evening (assuming by you nickname that you live in Holland just like me).

Best regards,

Works indead much better....

A lot of pleasure with your new Mede8er, but that will not be difficult after a MVIX PVR experience  Grin

hi sir Maasbommel,

quick Q if you don't mind.  In my audio options, I don't seem to have the "HDMI LPCM Multichannel" option.  I only have the HDMI 2ch and the HDMI Passthrough.  is this a firmware issue?

my audio set-up is as follows: mede8er -> yamaha hdmi amp -> lcd tv (all using HDMI cables in between).  which audio option do you suggest I use?

many thanks,
8ball

8ball,

This could be a firmware issue, which firmware are you running??
Firmware version 1.XX doesn't have the "HDMI LPCM Multichannel" option.

So try to update to the latest firmware (read the instructions carefully) if you're running version 1.XX

Hi 8ball,

My Beginners Guide is describing all options there are on 2.0.2.
DeathAngel001 is right, in 1.x.x rev firmware this HDMI LPCM Multichannel is not included.
You have to upgrade to 2.0.2 to get that.

Hi sir, copy that. Sorry am really a newbie at this and am trying to scour this forum for all helpful info to help be hit the ground running.

Yes, I was only at 1.2.2a, that's why the LPCM option wasn't indicated.  Thanks for your feedback.  I upgraded to V2 and it already solved the prob.  Now am just thinking about the prospects of upgrading to 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 (cause I don't have an internal drive). hmmm... Roll Eyes

If you are running fine on 2.0 without problems I would stay on that release until a new version is released with new features that you would like to use.

Issues that are fixed with 2.0.2 and 2.0.1:

Mede8er Change Log V2.0.2 -- 6 January 2010
128M-HMC-M03I-20100106-v7.0.7.r2956_SANJIA_QA20091208_USB
1. Fixed audio folder navigation problem on NFS.
2. Fixed samba login without user name
3. Fixed crash issue as result from USB unplugging
4. Fixed DVD ROM issue - problem with not ejecting.
5. Fixed DVD setup menu CMD_ANGLE button would show teletext menu.
6. Fixed UPnP problems
7. Added video "Digital Noise Reduction" option to setup menu **
8. Fixed subtitle font issues with certain language's special characters, etc
9. Fixed file extension .wav  .divx

** It would be suggested that you change your DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) setting to OFF (AUTO is the install default) if you experience a 'soft' picture while watching SD movies on a large screen TV - this will sharpen the image considerably.

Mede8er Change Log V2.0.1 -- 25 December 2009
128M-HMC-M03I-20091225-v7.0.7.r2892_SANJIA_QA20091208_USB
1. Changed code on Mede8er security to fix “Invalid Hardware message”
2. Fixed infinite loop on “loading animation” when opening an invalid file
