Hi,
Last week I have bought a MED500X2 without a HDD because I want to move over my existing HDD.
After unpacking the MED500X2 I imidiately flashed firmware V2.0.2 on it before installing the HDD
The existing Western Digital 1Tb HD (WD10EARS) was used in another media player. After installing the HDD I connected the assembled inut to my PC using the blue USB cable and removed all partitions. Then I moved the unit to my TV set again and went trough the initial setup proces.
Then I went to the option to format my HDD but there was no option "Internal HDD" to format.
I downgraded the MED500X2 to version 2.0.1 and 2.0.0 where I had the same result.
Hooking the unit to my PC again and formatted the disk without a problem and went back to my TV. Started the system up and there was still no HDD visible.
Finally I downgraded to version 1.0.3 where I was able to format the HDD.
I have put some media on the HDD and it plays like it should be.
Upgrading to any of the 2.0.x versions reverts back to the old problem and there no disk contents, disk infomration in the other setup part or "Internal HDD" option in the format menu. Even the 2.0.3 version has the same problem.
When I connect the player to my PC again I can find all media as expected!
With kind regards, b03km4n

Please read item 3 in this:- http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,7564.0.htmlIt sounds like the x2 can't create the partion it wants.... Try removing partitonos on the pc, but you can't use the X2 to do it...rather than formatting them. The drive must be directly connected to the pc.

I have downloaded Western Digital LifeGuard Diagnostics (DLGDIAG) to do a write zeros to the disk. After this the disk shows as not initialized under windows so it is no longer usable and there are also no partitions on it.
I still do not have the option to format "Internal HDD" under any of the firware 2.0.0, 2.0.1, 2.0.2 or 2.0.3 versions. Under firmware 1.0.3 I can format the disk as I did before. After formatting the disk using 1.0.3 I can put media on it and play it back without any problem.
As soon as I put the 2.0.x version of the firmware on the MED500x2 the issue is back again and the disk is not visible on the system when it is hooked up to the TV set. When I connect the unit back to my pc using the blue usb cable I can access the disk like it should be.
Luckily I also have a spare Western Digital WD500AAKS disk which was never used because I keep it aside for when one of my RAID-1 NAS disk dies.
So I replaced the 1TB WD10EARS for the 500GB WD500AAKS and this results in exactly the same issue.
Could it be the mede8er 500x2 v2.x.x firmware has a problem with Western Digital drives?
With kind regards, b03km4n

Last night I took the WD500AAKS to one of my neighbours who bought an internal MED500x2 with a 2 TB WD HDD. First we updated his unit to firmware version 2.0.3 and checked if all was ok.
Then we placed my WD500AAKS HDD into his system and we were able to format the disk as expected. After formatting the disk I placed the disk back into my unit and the disk is still not available when connected to my TV. When i connect the unit to my PC the formatted disk is visible as before.
Finally i reverted the firmware back to V.1.0.3 and the disk is visible again.
Because of this strange behaviour I suspect there is something wrong with the internal controller so I will try to swap the system for another one in the store as I have a 14 day return policy. I hope the new system works like it should.

Hi viking_cro,
The unit has been swapped by the vendor for a new one and the issue is resolved now. My mew unit is also not really stable and has frequent restarts but I guess this will be resolved in a new firmware release.

There is a fix in beta test at the moment. Those suffering from this do have the option now of waiting to see if the RC currently under test will fix it for them, before returning the X2.
