Using Med500X / 400X2 / 500X2 to stream from it.

Setup als follow:
Using the My_Shortcuts method as shown in this demo http://www.mede8er.com/Mede8er_X2_Add_Shortcut.html

Also using NFS streaming from 400X2 and 500X2 without issues.

No, currently only BT torrent plugin available.
But as it is a Linux Debian OS underneath I expect that a plugin will come available or it must be possible to install it otherwise manually on this linux box.

But did not had the time to give that a try.

I just added the OpenMediaVault forum link to my first post.

It seems that your question is already answered in this forum post, some user already configured it:
https://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/openmediavault/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=183

Still need to give it a try myself...

I bought the exact same server yesterday. A friend of mine recommended I use FreeNAS. Any specific reason you went for OpenMediaVault?

I like the GUI more.
Also the auto update feature of the Gui for Debian and the plugin feature.

I suggest just to try both and look what you like the most and share your results here.

I get the following error trying to install OpenMediaVault from a usb stick (created with UNetbootin)...

"Partition(s) 1 on dev/sda have been written, but we have been unable to inform the kernel of the change, probably beacue it/they are in use. As a result, the old partition(s) will remain in use. You should reboot now before making any further changes.

ERROR! ! !"

No HDD in my HP. Any ideas?

I used another method to install and had no errors like that.

I did as follow:
- wiped usb stick (all partitions removed
- burned the install iso file on a DVD
- pulled all the disks in the proliant - so no disks attached during install
- connected and usb dvd drive to the proliant and booted from it
- booted from the DVD drive
- installed open media vault on the usb stick
- when all was installed, put back the drives in my proliant and booted open media vault from the usb stick

Hi Massbommel,

I've been trying to install to USB and I used the same way you did.
I'm using 16GB stick which I dont think it should be an issue, but i kept getting that it failed installing GRUB installer.
If I install it on SATA, it worked fine.
any idea why?

Cheers

I suggest to try another brand usb stick if you have one.
I had no such issues with my Sandisk 8GB U3 Titanium USB stick
