I see. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
Although the connection type I chose to test is not great that still does not explain why i can't see the mac address in the setup menu of the mede8er? Surely that should be there and visible irrespective of the connection type I am trying to setup? i.e. as default when the mede8er boots up one should be able to see it since it refers to a piece of hardware and not a 'setting' or am I mistaken? It seems that there is no point to try and setup a wireless network if the device does not see the hardware that it needs to use to connect to a wireless network? Just trying to get an idea of the root of my problem here. I believe that most Mac addresses are assigned by the manufacturer so to speak but that it is possible to get a locally administered mac address? What is the case here? Any suggestions most welcome as to what i could do to sort it out!

Are you getting a message saying "USB wi-fi installed" soon after boot? (they use the old message for both wi-fi interfaces).

In that case contact Sanji Tech Support, and tell them you don't get the message I described...so wi-fi is not avialble. If you feel up to it...you could ask if you can try re-seating the card and still be covered by your warrenty. Some people buy the card seperately and fit it themsleves...so it's classed as user installable.

Hi G, I received my 500X2 a couple of days ago and I have the same problem (FW v2.0.6 - europe, no internal HDD, ...). I think I've tried all troubleshooting steps suggested all over this forum. Did you manage to get it working in the end? Anyone else maybe? I guess I'll just have to contact the support desk as well Thx!

So you have no "USB wifi" message, and no wifi MAC number in Network Info?

I meant what I said. To get out of setup you "can" just keep pressing Ret..working up the Setup menu. Don't. As soon as you think it's ok'd a setup..and is inviting you to setup again by entering DHCP auto or manual..that is the time to Press the big Setup button on the remote..and get out.
Pressing Ret just seems to undo everything you have done...by the time you get to Setup / network, wireless is OFF.
Also what security are you using on the router? I find only WPA2 / AES is realible.
Nope, no luck yet. I'm using WPA2/AES encryption. I even setup a second AP to see if it maybe not the AP that isn't so lekker, but still nothing. After I set the thing up, and the press the BIG setup button (the gray one with the tool symbol), the Wi-Fi is still offline. I've tried everything now and I'm even considering pulling a wire through the roof just to get the thing to work.

WPA PSK protocol is the one for me!
All the other do not work, you will a IP-adress thats all. Reinstall Firmware (2.07) and connect wifi with WPA PSK, it is slower then WPA2 AES.

Not sure what you mean with the shortest route? If you mean physical Wi-Fi route - not a problem, the AP is in the ceiling directly above the MED500X2 (have full signal) If you mean shortest route within the MED500X2 menu structures, I've used all possible routes. Via the menu and using the little tool button on the remote. In the Misc menu under network, all the Wi-Fi has "n/a" next to it (excluding the MAC address and DNS server) I have exactly the same issues - all this doesn't help - the WifI must be fixed and is not working in release 2.0.7 firmware - is somebody going to do somthing about this or keep trying to wish the problem away - the firmware must be fixed, please, please!

2.0.7 is working using the two routers I know PCI-E works with..a belkin, and a dlink. However, I have never managed to get it working with a buffalo. So there are some chip comparibilty issues between the realtek pci-e board and "some" router chips.

I have no problems with my router? I do not understand your post.

You do have a problem with your network though. Your general apprach seems to be everything can be solved with a firmware fix. I was pointing out I have never got pci-e to work with a buffalo router..with any firmware. It's a chip problem .This is why many network kit makers only recommend using their make of USB wi-f dongle with their routers...thay cannot gurentee any other combination will have been tested to work.

What problem is there with my network if a Philips Blu-ray 3d works perfectly on my wifi and all my other devices except my med500x2?
I am not the only one expecting a firmware fix, just read all the other wifi complaints. No use trying to waffle it away - it needs fixing by firmware. I want to plug it in and do the settings and it must work, first time, like all my other devices.
