I'm experiencing problems setting up the Wi-Fi on my MED500X2.

My MED500X is working seamlessly on my network, but the MED500X2 doesn't seem to like my network.
The MED500X is connected via the USB Wi-Fi dongle - works 100%
The MED500X2 is using the built-in Wi-Fi kit - only sees my AP, but can not connect.

Network setup (static)

MED500X
Ver: 4.0.4
IP: 192.168.0.8
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: not used, so default

MED500X2
Ver: 2.0.2
IP: 192.168.0.18
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: not used, so default - tried the same range as the IP

I'm able to see my AP with a good signal strength (have a 8dBm antenna in my roof). As soon as I connect, it ask for the WPA Key. After entering the key, it seems as though a screen is skipped (I see another screen flash for a split second, but it is so fast that I can not make out what is displayed) and then the device asks for either fixed or auto IP. Tried both to no success. After entering the static IP, the system ask if I'm sure to save - accepting it, the system "test" the connection and the reverts back to the option of either static/auto IP.

Any idea what the problem might be?

My advice is when you think it's ok ed a wi-fi setup....get out the shortest route possible...press the Setup key! Do not Ret up the menu stucture.  Then go back into setup and check the network setup in misc.

Not sure what you mean with the shortest route?
 Huh

If you mean physical Wi-Fi route - not a problem, the AP is in the ceiling directly above the MED500X2 (have full signal)
If you mean shortest route within the MED500X2 menu structures, I've used all possible routes. Via the menu and using the little tool button on the remote.

In the Misc menu under network, all the Wi-Fi has "n/a" next to it (excluding the MAC address and DNS server)

I meant what I said. To get out of setup you "can" just keep pressing Ret..working up the Setup menu. Don't. As soon as you think it's ok'd a setup..and is inviting you to setup again by entering DHCP auto or manual..that is the time to Press the big Setup button on the remote..and get out.

Pressing Ret just seems to undo  everything you have done...by the time you  get to Setup / network,  wireless is OFF.

Also  what security are you using on the router?  I find only WPA2 / AES is realible.

I am using also WPA2-PSK (AES)  without issues.

Suggest also to try the following:
- Do a reset to factory defaults in setup
- after that, go to standby again, unplug power and plug in again
- retry to setup and use WPA2-PSK (AES)

Hi.
Hope someone can help am having trouble with the PCIe Wifi module in 500X2. Basically I can't see the mac address in the setup menu so the device is not seeing the wifi kit. I have upgraded to version 2.03 but no joy. I do not have an internal hdd installed could that be an issue? I also tried downgrading to older firmware (1.03) but still nothing. Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks!

Did you install the wifi kit yourself?
Please check inside if it is fitted well on the connector of the mainboard and if the wifi internal cable is connected.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
No, it came pre-installed in the device. I have opened it up to check if it is connected and it is, and the internal cable is also connected.

What do you see exactly when you go into the wifi setup menu?
Do you get an error?

If I look under the setup>network>wireless setup and go into that I get nothing as there is no AP (i do not have a router, I set up a peer to peer on pc which other devices have no problem seeing and connecting to from where the mede8er is situated). I can hit the red button to bring up advanced menu. I can then choose between peer to peer and option 2 (sorry for lack of detail, at work so not close to mede8er at the moment). If I try select peer to peer I hit enter and then nothing happens... there is no error message or anything just nothing at all - the menu stays blank.

Similarly if I reset the instrument's firmware it asks for date, time, and wired network setup on startup but not wireless setup. Assuming it should ask for both?

There must be an issue of some description if it does not see the MAC address in setup>misc>network info. All wireless related settings are 'N/A' including mac address. The wired network mac address is there but not the wireless one, which has me worried that it does not detect the wifi card. Would a firmware update fix this or is it hardware-related? Thanks again.

Ad-hoc? What do you expect to do with that?   You need to set up your PC as a WAP...which can then use 300-N...or at least 54G. Ad-hoc goes back to 11B. It's only good for text messages.

Thanks - was just trying to test the wireless connection, not make a permanent setup. Am planning to upgrade and buy a router at some point but have not gotten around to it yet. Either way the mede8er's wifi is still the problem i sit with...

Yes..but it's something that we would never try to debug.

Ok, so do you think that basically I am sitting with a hardware failure?

No..it's just no one trying to stream movies would ever try to see if this works...or know how to make it work. The PCI-E card is used in laptop's and ad-hoc has a use there. But Sanji can't prise the code open and remove the option...so it's there....of  little or no use.

So it's  not a good diagnostic to test the wi-fi.
