Good day,

I am trying to use DLNA server in my Mede8er MED500X2 (fw 2.0.3) to play videos on a Samsung TV (C750 model). The server and directory structure is visible on the TV in AllShare, but non of the file formats work. I have tried mp4, avi, mkv with the same result - TV shows a 'Not Supported File Format' message when I try to play it. The same files play ok from a USB connected directly to the TV.

Search on Samsung forums showed that Samsung's implementation of DLNA is quite sensitive and doesn't work 100% with all DLNA software. There are some proposed configuration changes for Mediatomb for fixing this compatibility issue (requires changes to config.xml on mediatomb server).

Did anyone experience similar issues with Samsung TVs? What DLNA server is used in MED500X2 and is there any way to modify default configuration file?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had the error "video codec not supported" trying to view video's using the wireless option on my samsung tv or my samsung bluray player, but once I added encoding to the video's having this error using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 (free version) http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/Encoder4_Overview.aspx it fixed this issue.

So, using allshare or DNLA wirless streaming video, what some files are missing is the correct encoding! I was able to do this to .wmv, avi and mov files. Either seperately or making a windows live movie maker wmv file and encoding that final result. Why no one has this info posted anywhere I looked (and I looked high and low) I have no idea, but yeah theres the fix..

AFAIK the DLNA server used in the mede8er firmware is... Mediatomb! And no, there's no "user" access to its configuration files...

I'm having the same issue on my Samsung TV 6series. I'm running the latest 2.0.7 firmware on my Med500X2 and the latest firmware on my TV.
Will there be any support for Allshare in the future? Or is there a way to tweak it?

The whole point  about Upnp is it forces you to use acceptable media..media the chip can "defintely" play. PC's will play almost anthing..and this does result in a lot of badly encoded media.  Mediplayers will allow you to try and see if such media will play by using Samba..and see if they "might" play.

So your  TV is bassically telling you it can't "defintely" play it..so it won't try and play it.  So upnp is doing it's job!

Allshare must be the worst name to give any kind of upnp service! EasyShare would have been better..as we tend to think that things which are "easy to use" suffer from limitations..well i do  anyway!
