I have a med 500:
When I play a 1080x720 xvid file in an avi container it plays without problem. If I change the container from avi to mkv by just remuxing the avi file with mkvmerge the video is not played back with the error message : frame too big.
Any explanation for this behaviour?

This is the info of the avi file:

If I change the codec ID in the mkv  file from :V_MS/VFW/FOURCC to XVID/XVID as in the avi, sound is played but no video is shown.

Anxious to get an explanation  Huh

To me it looks as if Med 500X doesnot allow >_ 720p + Xvid in an mkv container :

"If I change the codec ID in the mkv  file from :V_MS/VFW/FOURCC to XVID/XVID as in the avi, sound is played but no video is shown."

You could be right...H263 might be an SD only codec.

There is no problem playing the file on a PC, so it has to be a Realtek specialty  Angry Angry

A pc will play  anything...it's not a good reference for a mediaplayer.

Got a similir issue with an mkv as well.  Strange thing is the same file will play fine on a 300x just bought about a month ago.  Mmm.  no more firmware is availalble for the 500x.  But maybe there is a "fix" that could be downloaded to address this.......

All unplayable media ends up having to be transcoded. I had to trancode all my XVids to H264 some time ago due to poor deinterlacing.
