My guess was that the 500X2 runs Linux under the hood and therefore should be able to hide movie jpegs by hiding them the Unix way. This means that a file should start with a dot, such as .avatar.jpg
However this resulted in a frozen menu screen until I renamed them back to file names without a starting dot.

The underlying os is linux, but the Gui is partly based on a propriety Realtek SDK.
And that is not using these filenames with a . to hide files.

User files are not stored on linux partition. Would you expect the NTFS emulator to obey linux rules?

I understand both replies. not be able to use dotted files is no issue.
I renamed them to folder.jpg. that makes them invisible too..

I think you can also put a $ sign in front of the file name. That might mask (hide them) too.
