Hi a5ian300zx & elbarto25,

I've done some more testing and I too feel that the Mede8er's network interface is very weak when it comes to streaming.  The small clip I uploaded the the FTP is roughly 70MB and the average bitrate is around 26 MBit/s.  I don't know what program (using MediaInfo) to use to find the max bitrate.  I'll probably keep it for the time being, but have started looking for a replacement, the Dune is looking good, although there's been some bad reports of it on MPC.

Hi davinz,

A couple days ago, I took the Mede8er off my gigabit switch and plugged it into my router which is only 10/100.  So the configuration is, my UNRAID server connected to the gigabit switch which is connected to my router and the Mede8er also connecting to my router.  This configuration should be similiar to your 10/100 being the connection point.  Anyway, the performance is still just as bad when streaming my test file.  I may try putting my server on the switch as well just to see if that works any better.  I won't be able to get to it until the weekend.  I'll post an update after some testings then.

Hi xtrm,

It is all about the nas, set it to 10/100 and in my situation the judder was gone. Both of the interfaces must have the same connection setting, as i read in your configuration, your server is still on Gigabit.

I think you are right.... There are some more members that having problems with a gigabit switch with a 100bt mediaplayer connected to it. Has something to do with flow control that is giving streaming problems. See http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=682.msg3881#msg3881

I like the workaround you used by placing a 100bt hub between.....

I'm also getting the same problems streaming FULL HD material from my Nas to the Mede8er. It sometimes judders and some scenes are a bit in slow motion ;-)

I have the new Synology 1010+ Nas. Have tried it with a 100Mbit Switch and with a Gbit Switch but haven't seen much difference between them.
Running the files on the HD seems to work fine.

I'm using NFS to stream the files from my Nas to the Mede8er.

Have disabled Jumbo Frames on the Synology (the only network related option i can set from the UI).

Hope someone can really help me out. I bought the Mede8er after reading a lot of reviews about mediaplayers, and must say that it works great, except for the 2 things i find the most important ;-)

YAMJ support and Full HD Streaming from my Nas. I heard the YAMJ support is coming in the near future so that's hopefully something that will be fixed, but what about the Full HD streaming???

Hi Davinz,

your saying if i set my Nas to 10/100mb and have it going through a 10/100 router/hub that's should resolve my stutter issue, the problem with that is when transferring data from PC to Nas without gigabit will take ages.

Plugging the server to a 100mbit from a gigabit to resolve the streaming issue is not what I'd consider a good solution considering my old player have no problem going thru a gigabit switch.  Anyway, just for kicks, I've tried plugging both my server and the Mede8er onto my 10/100 router and it still stutters.........

a5ian300zx,
I was wondering if you can give that a shot just for kicks and report back if possible.

Thanks

Hi,

i actually got a gigabit router now.

before setup was:

net gear dg834n
gigabit swicth

now: Billion 7800n gigabit router

i tried it with just the netgear dg834n in 10/100 mode and it still stutters.

I have given up now and ordered myself a HDI Dune Prime 3.0 Smiley  which can do everything i need (HD Audio, NFS etc)

Hi a5ian300zx,

That's awesome!  I was thinking about getting a HDI Dune myself.  Let me know how it works out for you.

Thanks

Welp, I've just found another video that it stutters on.  The overall bitrate is 21 mbps.  I monitored my server and the stuttering part was between 30 and 32mbps.  Seems like this player can't handle more than 32 mbps.  I've tested this with both my server and the player connected to my 10/100 router.  So no gigabit involved.

Even if the 10/100 did work, which would be sufficient for me, it is not a good solution.  You can't have more than 2 of these players streaming at the same might due to the now limitation of the server/nas at 100mbit.

At this point, I've totally given up on this player.  Would I recommend it? It depends.  If you're just using it with local HDD, then sure, it works well.  But if you're looking for a "Network" media player, this is not it.  It plays most files okay, but have fails on others while my older iStar, which I believe is a PCH 110 clone of some sort, had no problem.  I don't know if its the player or the realtek chipset, but to minimize my finding of another incompetant "Network" media player, I'm gonna avoid both.

I'll just keep it since its not a lot of money to me, but until this streaming issue gets fixed, if it ever will, I'm sorry, but I will not be recommending this to anyone I know.

And now, my search for the "Network" media player to replace the iStar I want to retire continues....

Hi,

I finally received my HDI Prime 3.0 and wow everything just works HD audio and network stutter free Smiley

I agree i would recommend the player if the end user is not looking for HD audio or network playback. I have sold my mede8er as i just don't have time to wait and see - sold to a good home a mate of mine Smiley as i recommended it to his younger brother for their needs and their more than happy with mede8er.

I have the same problem, stuttering of m2ts movies with high bitrate, i also bought a prime 3.0 and everything plays well without stuttering.
I hope mede8er resolves the problem with nfs speed so we can watch the same movies with the mede8er.

Hi

I have sent my mede8er to a good home (a friend of mine), for my needs it did not meet but overall i still think its the best solid player to come out firmware was rock steady and build was excellent.

if this was a sigma based processor (HD audio support etc) and good nfs support then this would be a real winner maybe mede8er 2 Smiley

I would also say something about this isue.

I have GBit network.
The mkv files (bitrate > 28Mbit) on my Qnap  began to stutter/juddering on my HDI Dune Center and Mede8ter.

Therefore I looked to another NAS, the LG-N2R1.
Then I did the same test.
The mkv fiiles in range 20Mbit to 48MBit plays wonderfull on my HDI Dune Center no stutter at all with SMB/NFS connection. Cheesy
But on the Mede8ter the 28Mbit mkv and up, began to stutter/juddering. Cry

So it looks like a little 'problem' on the Mede8ter side.
The Mede8ter is placed on top of the Dune so the distance in LAN cable length is the same.

Btw I could not save a password for network login (to my LG-NAS), it says it saves but it didn't,
but with the workgroup login it wil save the login password.
Have anyone seen this on the Mede8ter?  Huh

I have the same problem with juddering on Mede8er with some of my files. I have to tell you that before the Mede8er i had Asus O'Play ( same hardware as Mede8er) and the same files played just fine on the same network. This is a very big dissapointment for me becouse i thought i made an upgrade from Asus, in some regards it is, but in others it is not.
I am hoping that is a firmware issue and it will be resolved. Waiting for an answer from moderators.
