The fan can be disconnected on the MED500X2 if you do not have an internal Hard Drive installed

Pls follow these simple instructions
http://www.mede8er.org/artwork/temp/MED500X2_No_Internal_Hard_Drive_Fan_Instruction_v0.pdf

THIS INSTRUCTION DOES NOT APPLY TO THE MED500X or MED500X-Light

That's the standard type of drive for a pvr, so no, you can't disconnect the fan.

Because it does not need any - surface of the processor itself is enough for proper cooling.
But when you fit a HDD in the box, it needs a fan to have enough cooling because the disk will heat up the box.

I melted a PCH cpu in my RV's 20"x10" media Cabinet one summer...  Comments like it's doesn't need one really depend on the environment you are running it in.

If you intend on taking your 500X2 to Burning Man this year, Aluminum Stick-ON Heat sink's are pretty cheap.   Cool

Sure, if you place a med in a closed closed or stack it on other heat dissipating devices, you will burn it down also with a fan.......

Please inform us more on what size and where to buy, as I am sure a heatsink will be best if fitted an internal hard drive and using it frequently.

My 500X2 is hot as hell and I am only doing copy on HDD at the time (for about 36 hours on a row) as I am filling up the drive with my stacked video's to release my pc hard-drive.
