No HDMI audio via Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:31:31 PM »
Hi all,

Just received my MED400x2 today. Unfortunately I cannot get any HDMI audio via my onkyo TX-SR605 receiver.
MED400X2 --> (HDMI) Onkyo TX-SR605 ---> (HDMI) SAMSUNG LE40
Sound via component is working.

Audio settings on Mede8er:
HDMi Passthrough
SPDIF Passtrough
TrueHD

I previously owned a popcornhour which was connected to my receiver via HDMi. This worked fine. Guess I'm doing something wrong... :(

Who can help me out?

Thanks in advance!
Renier

Does the X2 support audio via HDMI? Have you tried an optical link instead?

Hi Hixxer,

Thanks for your reply.
Optical link does work. Howeveer I do not want to use this as I need the optical link on my receiver for an other device.
Audio via HDMI (v.1.3) should work I guess...?

Strange thing is also is that I cannot select 1080p in me settings. It only shows up to 1080i....

 Kind regards,
Renier

Try to switch to HDMI Auto and then do a reboot.
Are you able to select 1080p then?

Hi Maasbommel,

Tried this by connecting via my receiver and directly via my tv. Does not work...
My receiver states: no signal when connected via the receiver.

My pch-a110 and laptop work fine via hdmi via the receiver.
Cheers,
Renier

Hi badkarma

From the Onkyo TX-SR605 User Manual Page 84

HDMI Audio Out
This preference determines whether audio received at the HDMI IN is output by the HDMI OUT. You may want to turn this preference on if your TV is connected to the HDMI OUT and you want to listen to the audio from a component that’s connected to an HDMI IN, through your TV’s speakers. Normally, this should be set to Off.

Off: HDMI audio is not output (default).
On: HDMI audio is output.

Notes:
• If On is selected and the signal can be output by the TV, the AV receiver/AV amplifier will output no sound through its peakers.
• When TV Control is enabled, this setting is set to Auto.
• With some TVs and input signals, no sound may be output even when this setting is set to On.

You might want to check this setting on the amp

Hi Mede8er1,

The setting on my receiver (HDMI Audio Out) is set to 'Of'' I also used this setting before when using my pc and PCH A-110 on my receiver. This worked fine.

Renier

Hi Renier,

Regarding your settings:
HDMi Passthrough
SPDIF Passtrough
TrueHD

Did you try to toggle these and experiment with these settings?
Does it bring your audio back?

And is your mede8er volume setting on max (30-31)?

Hi all,

Thanks a lot for your help. After a lot of testing (thanks Mede8er1!) I found out that I might have a faulty HDMI connection on my Mede8er unit. When I plug in the HDMI cable a little bit looser than normal everything works fine: audio is working ok (DTS and everyting) and it is possible to select 1080p in the menu of the Mede8er.  :) :) :)

I have contacted the seller and start the RMA process.

Kind regards,
Renier
