This only applies to firmware 2.0 or higher to access your PC from your mede8er

Be sure that your computer is configured with workgroupname: WORKGROUP
You can check/change this by going to windows control panel - click on the system icon. You will see workgroupname in the bottom of the screen.

First step: enable file sharing on Win7:
1. Control panel
2. Network and Internet
3. Network and Sharing Center
4. Change advanced sharing settings
5. Under Home and Work profile enable:
                 a.   Turn on Network discovery
                 b.   Turn on file and printer sharing
                 c.   Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write in public folder
                 d.   Use 128-bit encryption
                 e.   Turn off password protected sharing
                 f.   Select: Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers
                 g. connections with home group: use user accounts with password setting, don't choose option to let Win7 control connections with homegroup.

Now goto control panel -> user accounts -> manage other accounts -> enable the guest account. (or create a new account like e.g. mede8er and give it a password if you want to use a password protected share and no guest account)

Second step:  Share desired folders on your PC for the mede8er:
1. Start Windows Explorer (Not confuse with Internet Explorer)
2. Goto the folder you want to share on one of your local discs
3. Click with right mouse on the folder to share
4. Select Share with and then Specific people
5. On pull down bar select Guest and click on add button (or add the account you made above e.g. mede8er)
6. Click on button below.

Last step: Get access from your mede8er:
1. Goto the Network menu
2. Select WORKGROUP and select the Win7 PC with ok. (or add PC in Shortcut menu as described here if you don't see workgroup and pc: http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=47.0)
3. For user fill in: guest leave password blank and select OK or OK save to shortcut (or use the username/password you created e.g. mede8er and the password you set in this account)

Thatís it. Works like a charm without the need to change any registry setting in Win7.

To access the mede8er from your PC:
- Be sure that you have switched NAS to ON in the Mede8er setup
- On your PC open the file explorer (so not the internet explorer)
- Click on the network icon and your Mede8er will show up. Click on it to browse the content of the internal disk if you have one installed
- If you don't see it, try to type \\mede8er on the input line on the top (or if you gave it another hostname type the hostname in stead)

For those still having issues after above you can try this:
Here are some further registry 'tweaks' if this doesn't work:

WARNING: This requires editing your PC's registry which, if edited incorrectly, can cause Windows systems to become unstable and unusable. So, follow the instructions below at your own risk. - we are not responsible for any damage caused by following these steps.

      1. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor.
              MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
      2. On the right side, double-click on 'everyoneincludesanonymous' and change the 'Value data' from '0' to '1'
      3. Double-click on 'NoLmHash' and change the 'Value data' from '1' to '0'
      4. Navigate to the following location in the registry editor:
              MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManServer\Parameters
      5. Double-click on 'restrictnullsessaccess' and change the 'Value data' from '1' to '0'
      6. Close the registry editor

Finally, restart your PC.

Well, I'm trying to connect to the mede8er from my pc but this just doesn't work.
It shows up in my network, but when I try to connect to it, I just get an error.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Maybe if you give some more details we can give it a guess what the root cause is of your problems.....

So at least to get a clue please answer all the questions below:
1 how did you connect your mede8er on the network, wifi, lan cable to a router or direct connect to your PC?
2 what firmware version on mede8er are you using
3 did you have an internal disk in your mede8er and if so is it formatted from mede8er menu
4 do you see the internal drive over the network? If yes, is it called C or HDD1
5 are you using dhcp or manual ip configuration? Please give ip address of your mede8er, pc and used subnetmask on both.
6 are you able to ping the ip address of your mede8er
7 what error message do you get when you try to connect

Well, today it seems to be working fine.
Could the problem have been that I didn't restart the mede8er after I changed some network settings?
Anyways, it's fine for now. Hopefully it stays that way.

Thanks!

Hi!

I followed all your instructions, again. But the Mede8eter recognizes my PC, it shows up in the Workgroup folder, but the Harddrive I'm sharing doesn't show up. It used to show-up before. Do yuo know what the problem can be?

Thanks!

Patrick

sory but making a special guest account to have commection with the mede8er makes no sence,
it should work right away when putting dns adres and nas on om your network like version 2.02 in win 7

if you have a lot off trouible with connection wwith the new firmware, the the coinclusion is simple bug in firmware.

firmware v 2.02 works fine and suddenly new firmware and can`t acces mexded8er on merworek annymore with the same
network and settings on win 7.

the new firmware should work just like v 2.02 without nbetwork problems.
editting the rgister of windows makes also no senxce at all!

BY CURIOSITY I TRYED WAT WAS SAID AND FOLLOWED THE INSTUCTIONS STEP BY STEP AND EVEN EDITED REGISTER STILL DOES NOT WORK !!!!!

PLEASE REWRITE THE NEW FIRMWARE SO THAT IF WORKS ON NAS AS  VERSION 2.02 :-X

Not the right place to post this, should be posted in bug section if you want to raise attention to this with a post.

I already tryed what you said but dit not work at all.
now i reformatted my mede8er again strange because it was already formatted with the firmware 2.10
now everything is working fine.
one stange thing is that teh mede8er HD is called usb 1.

it is not nessesary to make a gues acount for the medr8er,make no sence to me.
i have one account as administrator and have no extra acount to acces mede8er.

i am glad everything is working fine now,but stange that the problem was that i had to format mij HD again it was already formatted by mede8er.

This still gives me the impression that still not ok, because it should give HDD1 over samba when formatted from gui.

If you internal disk is still not filled I would try the following (if you know howto telnet into your mede8er):
1. downgrade to version 1.2.2a
2. wipe your internal disk completely with the dd command over telnet (see link in the howto of the mede8er beginners guide)
3. format with gui using 1.2.2a
4. now upgrade directly to 3.0.2 using the method as described in the release notes

Your disk should be mentioned HDD1 over samba after that.
