Disk Director can be used in Mede8er slave mode or with an unmounted HDD in any other SATA to USB system (HDD cradle or so).
And Acronis Disk Director 10 or 11 can be found for download with torrent or Emule.
Most of the times "complete" with everything you need...

Maybe someone else can aswer my question:
my new disk is formatted in a very funny way bij the 500X2.

15,98MB unallocated - 2,724TB formatted - 15MB unallocated - 118MB Local, unformatted - 16MB unallocated.

Is this normal???

Would anyone confirm that my disk partitions are the same as her/his partitions with a 3TB disk inside?

It looks still funny because I cannot recognize the small partitions. Normally Acronis point them as ext3 or Linux, not as unallocated.

Is it possible to add some windows disk manager screenshot?

Or some Acronis screenshot?
You should see an NTFS, swap, and root EXT3 filesystem

I know, used to see the right partitions with my 2.0TB disk inside the "old" 500X.
Thatīs why it is funny.

Hereby the screenshot.
Unallocated (I can understand) and unformatted (which I donīt understand).

Maybe I can format the 2 partitions to Ext3 and swap with Acronis, without hurting the 2.7TB volume and Mede8er software?

Help me out please JER, why is it interesting?
Iīm no specialist with this kind of partitions.

GPT probably because the partition is over 2TB.

But why do I not have the swap and ext3 partition?
And what kind of partitions are the 2 unformatted?

Questions questions questions...
I hope someone else wth a 3TB, clean Mede8er formatted, disk can have a look and share itīs information.

It's intersting because 4k sector drives where created so that Mbr could still be used.
Without telnet it wasn't easy to see the x2 partitioning....so i assummed they expoited the 4k sector mbr compatibity. Your infomation shows they are using gpt instead.

It's a new chip and a new sdk produced for it. I see no reasn why they shouls format the drive as that required by the 1073.

We are currently testing a virgin WD30EZRX on the MED500X2 without any jumpers. Its seems like it requires two formats by  V2.0.2 and then it works 100% and all the partitions are correct. We are still conducting tests and will reports back next week once we confirm these results on more samples.

Iīll keep my eyes on this post for the update.
Thanks already.

Hope I will not have to move the 2.5TB movies again for a second format...

We have just confirmed our findings with test done on a second SATA3 WD30EZRX .

The first format leaves the 2 linux partitions in a corrupt state and will normally be shown in Media Library as C:. A second format corrects this and the Hard Drive will be shown as HDD:

So bottom line is to always do two x formats when using this Hard Drive

So, formatting my HDD for another (second) time will delete my 2.5TB movies again...Huh
Iīm not amused.

BUT, my HDD is normal visible in the media library.
So, still the same question, how does the disk look like in Acronis? Screenshot maybe?

Here is some picture of Acronis of a 3TB formatted disk from Mede8er setup, see attachement.

It might be possible to reformat the linux ext3 and swap with Acronis without the need of a full reformat.
And then fill the new formatted linux ext3 by reloading the firmware. That probably will install the linux part of the med8er OS on it.

But you really need to know what you are doing as altering this kind of stuff can be risky without having a backup of your NTFS partition.

EDIT: 17Dec2011

IMPORTANT :The WD30EZRX Requires 2 x formats. Do not use any jumpers.
If you navigate to the Hard Drive in the Media Library and open the HDD Icon then the Drive should be shown as HDD:

We dont know about other brands and models of  SATA3 at this point but it may well be the same as the above.
Our tests show that with the 2 x formats this drive without any jumpers and with Firmware Version V2.0.2 works to specification.

Mede8er1

(Tested with WD30EZRS)
To use WD SATA3 HDD add jumper to Pin5-6

Mede8er1

just checing if the ''s'' at end and ''x'' at end is a typo perhaps?

i have a wd30ezrs (''s'' @ end) - do i require jumpers or not and do i need to format mine x2 too?

@wcronje,

You can compare your disk partitions with the Acronis attachement I posted a few posts above.
