You can try bootmed..see the 2.0.7 download post.  This has gparted on the desktop . See how much unused space there is before the ntfs partion when you connect the X2 via slave mode.  If it's 7 mib, the partion won't be detected. Some auto 4k alingment software round down..to 7 mib..when the X2 needs it to round up to 8 mib.

I've tried offical 4K alignmenet software..and they all move the NTFS partion to a position it can't be used by the X2 software.

I cannot see the like button on the bootmed webpage and posted it under comments - still waiting for feedback and thus I cannot download it.  It also mentions that it is 580Mb in size - can you confirm, because if it is that large I won't be able to download it in any case.

You don't have enough spare disk space on a PC for downloading and building utility iso's?

Yes, to download.  I'm in "bandwith limited" South Africa.  I have 1,5GB bandwith a month.  Since I started downloading disk utilities and firmware yesterday, I have used just over 1GB of my 1,5GB for the MONTH.  Fat chance that I would be able to get 580MB down in one try - we have sooooo many disconnects and server resets etc. etc.  If you are really lucky you get 100MB downloaded in one go.  I still need to download 2.0.7 as well and that is also 107/8MB if I get it down in the first try.

 Shocked

Three CD's worth a month!  The rest of take our Unlimited Downloads for granted I'm afraid.

We get used to saying, download this...and if that dosn't work...download that.

I suggest first to upgrade to 2.0.7 - reformat the disk with mede8er setup.
Then after a reboot check if you see the disk size under setup and see HDD under media library.

Update: corrrected mistype fw version.

I assume 2.0.7.

That 1.5GB is on a 3G stick.  None of my PCs at home were ever connected to the internet yet and I don't intend to connect them either.  I use the 3G stick on my work standby laptop and transfer files between them using a flash drive.

Thanks Maasbommel & jer1956 for all your suggestions and advise.  After I’ve loaded 2.0.7 the HDD was “seen” by the M8R and it was labelled “HDD”.  I initially copied a few files to the M8R and verified that those could be played and then I connected the MED500X2 to my MED500X’s USB port and started the tedious copy process of 1,8TB.  Approximately 3 days later the copy process was completed – so far so good.

Bottom line: The Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 (3TB SATA3) drive does work in the MED500X2.

Thanks again for all the help.

With this feedback therefore means that any Sata_3 drive worked fine in X2?

I walk to buy another disk (to put the X2) and this time will be the version Green 2TB (quieter, consume less power).
The HDD will Sata_2 already being more rare to find in stores. Now it's all Sata_3.
And I'll keep true to the Seagate brand.

@ SuperDIY - Thanks for all the hard work SuperDIY!

I also have a Seagate 3000GB drive (same model). I will upgrade the software on my X2 tonight in order to get it working. Re-formatting for me was not an option, since the drive is already full. Hopefully the Mede8er picks up the drive after the upgrade.

Regards
