How do you stream?
With Upnp? That will not work with external subtitle files, only with embedded.
And that is for all devices that use the Upnp protocol is my experience..... It comes with the protocol.

If you want to stream movies and use external subtitles, use NFS or normal filesharing to stream (samba - windows filesharing).

I suggest start reading my mede8er beginners guide, see my footer for the link or look in the tips section.
See the FAQ section.

Tips section can be found here;
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/board,45.0.html

For the basics on windows filesharing (called samba under linux) and NFS suggest also to try google.

Yes, if you goto the Network menu in media library and you goto Workgroup or by the Shortcut entry, then you are streaming with filesharing.

Regarding subtile .srt files, be sure that you use the same exact letters, it is case sensitive.
Then you should be able to toggle to the sub title using the subtitle button on your remote and then pressing up/down button to select the subtitle.

What network connection do you use?
Wifi or lan cable connection?

Also be carefull if your windows is set to hide known file extensions.....
If you name for e.g. movie.srt be carefull its not movie.srt.srt
