I received my Mede8er about 2 weeks ago.
Here are my first impressions.

First thing I did was a firmware update to 1.2.2a. No problems at all, just 3 minutes of work.

I already had all my movies on an external USB disk.
Connected the Mede8er via HDMI to my "HD Ready" LCD TV (no name - Techline) and configured it within 2 minutes. Connected the external USB disk and... voilà all my movies accessible with the remote.
All movies (H.262/mp4 and full DVD structure) are playing, all picture ratios are perfect.

The day after, I installed a WD Green 1TB disk (5 minutes) and copied all movies for my children on it. The system runs absolutely silent! The only downside of the "slower" (but silent) green disk is that the Mede8er boots so fast that the disk takes a few seconds more to be ready, so sometimes when you go like "power on - internal disk" to fast, you have to go back and select the internal disk again to see its content.

It took me 2 minutes to explain the unit to my oldest child (9 years), and my wife got it working in another few minutes too (very important)!

Waiting for some parental control functionality, I keep thrillers, horror and other rated stuff on the external USB disk (Verbatim 1TB) that needs to be powered on separately. When I do so it takes some 20 seconds to be accessible (no problem at all).

The reaction of the remote is excellent, even with the unit behind a "milky" glass in our TV/media rack.

All my movies are in a folder, and in each folder there is a folder.jpg with the cover of the movie. This works great as long as you don't use the filter tabs set to "movies". But even my children got it that they need to select the file with the little film icon in front (when .mp4). When a full structure DVD is inside the folder, one has to manually select the .ifo file.

I must say: this is a great unit.

Next step: the wireless dongle!
At home I have a Linksys (Cisco) wireless "N" router 2 floors (concrete) above (!)
I inserted the dongle (directly, no extension cord), configured the security password and... voilà! 50% signal and internet radio streaming without a glitch.

But.

There's always a "but"!
As soon as I had the wireless active the unit started to be slower, sometimes seemed to freeze. Just unplugged the wifi dongle and everything seems OK again. I left the wifi disconnected because I am often on business trips, and I don't want calls like "daddy it does not work"... I will do some further investigation on this during my x-mas holidays.

Little goodie: my daughter has a digital pictures camera with SD card as storage. She can put now the card into the Mede8er and look at all her pictures an movies she has taken!

I must say that this unit is a great piece of technology, and I can't wait to see further improvements (firmware).

Keep up the great job and tell all your staff that you have a new fan in Switzerland.

Nice to hear from another happy user!  Smiley Regarding Wi-Fi I have similar experiences but only when using "N". Switching to "G" makes the occasional freezes go away for me.

Kind regards

Hi ProgHead

Make sure you set your router to N+G and not N only then the Mede8er will fall back to G when it cannot connect N. Also note that new firmware has much better WiFi  Performance and I am sure that changing the setting above and using the new Firmware will resolve your issues. I know the update is not available yet but we are doing our best to get it out as soon as we can.

Just as a short feedback:
With the new firmware 2.x the wifi issue is completely gone!
Well done Mede8er staff!
