Hello,

I was using this firmware and every thing on my box was working fine (Med8er V3.0.2 update 3 June 2010)

I updated to the latest firmware (v4.0.4) and the update process seemed to work fine, no problems or issues there.

I connected my box to my Phillips LCD using a HDMI lead. I have tried many different movie files, all ones which played before and I get no sound at all.

I have tried both, downmix and passthrough on the audio settings and no joy.

I have tried playing an MP3 this also does not work.

I have tried connecting it to another new Panasonic TV and also to a HDMI compliant external amplifier his does not work

I have plugged in an external USB drive, this does not work.

I have tried RCA’S connected to the TV and the sound on the movie works fine.

I have connected my box to an external amplifier using a SPDIF coax and the sound works fine through this also.

I have tried both versions of (v4.0.4) both don’t work. I have reverted back to the old firmware (V3.0.2 update 3) thinking it might of been an error on the update and now the sound for this does not work (worked before).

I have tried the beta (V4Beta5) release, this did not work.

I’m really stumped, I’m either being really thick or some thing is up with the box, but seems weird for it to stop working all of sudden after this firmware upgrade!?

Is there a certain order of updating firmware that I am missing? Currently the box is on (V3.0.2 update 3).

Please help and advise my next step before I throw this box out the window lol.

What are the video settings you are using in mede8er setup.
Have you tried to change those?

Have you tried another HDMI port on your TV and also another HDMI cable?

Suggest also to unplug your TV from power and plug in again, to be sure you don't have a hanging HDMI port on your TV.

Hi,

I have done all of the above! Also tried video setting > HDMI auto and 720p what my TV is! Still nothing! as earlier explained this has only happened since the firmware update!

The upgrade includes both a bootloader and firmware upgrade. Only 3.0.5 works with the latest bootloaders. You should try going through the 3.0.5 install process and install 3.0.5.

Hi kevlondon

To me it looks like one of two possible problems

1) Corrupt Bootloader install

2) Hardware problem on HDMI Port

I suggest you try the 17L Bootloader patch and then install V4.0.4

Instructions for using Bootloader Patch

a) Download this utility  http://www.chip.de/downloads/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool_23418669.html and format your USB Stick to FAT32
b) Download 0017L_bootloader_patch.zip  http://www.mede8er.org/public_beta/0017L_bootloader_patch.zip
c) Unzip the file 0017L_bootloader_patch.zip and you will find 2 files inside.
    install.img and install.dat
d) Copy these files to the root of the USB drive
e) Install via Emergency Procedure.
--- On the first stage you will see the patch install on the screen
--- then the Mede8er will reboot
--- Next you will see BETA2 install on screen and a yellow box after half of progression bar stating it has to reboot
      --- then another reboot
--- then again it starts to install BETA2 and finishes with install complete and reboots

THE PROCESS IS NOT COMPLETE SO PLEASE CARRY ON

f) Delete the two files install.dat / install.img on the USB stick
g) Re download either of the following files

http://www.mede8er.org/beta/Firmware_Final/Mede8er_MED500X_V4.0.4_3March2011_INC_HDaudio.zip
http://www.mede8er.org/beta/Firmware_Final/Mede8er_MED400X_V4.0.4_7March2011_NO_HDaudio.zip

Unzip and copy the install.img to the root of the USB stick.
h) Update the Mede8er via Emergency procedure

XXXXX  DO NOT USE RESTORE CONFIGURATION  XXXXXXX

If this does not work then you will need to get the hardware exchanged

Thanks for your reply,

I have carried out the above and it installed the firmware fine.

Still the same problem with no audio. I find it hard to believe that a firmware upgrade can cause the sound to stop working, and its a hardware fault as it worked fine before this upgrade.

What warranty does the box come with? Or is that arranged through the dealer (digitalera) I bought it from?

As with the hardware change I assume i would have to send the box back to...?  and get this looked at?

Thanks

It's at time like this you appreciate why Modem/routers come with a "reset" button.  Somehow a bad install is not being recovered from thus stopping the hardware to function as it should. Re-installing firmware is not doing the same thing as pressing a "reset" button. There are de-bricking techniques which are used with modems when even using the "reset" button dosn't work. No one has come up with a de-bricking technique for a Med.  I have seen a modem technique based on using Ubuntu

I have had the same issue after upgrading with the latest  firmware; no sound at all ... I went back to v 3. ... from last december. That solved it, but stops me from trying all over again Undecided Undecided
It works fine now and that's how I like to keep it Grin

If you have downgraded to a previous FW version that worked before, and still not getting any sound, you must have some HW defect. Contact your reseller to get it repaired. Warranty term is in the manual and for Europe default 24 months as far I know.

Now there is another case where trying to go back to V3 dosn't fix V4 audio issues:-

I see Mede8er1 is suggesting those wanting to revert should go back even earlier:-

Cheers

Kev
