Audio problem on v4.0.4 when playing mp4
« on: March 13, 2011, 03:08:40 pm »
I have MED500X and when I instaled firmware v4.0.4 I lost voice audio while playing mp4. Backround music plays normaly but no speech sound on mp4 movies. On other formats (avi and mkv) everything works fine.

My mede8er is connected to TV with HDMI and to my stereo amp. with cinch connectors (classic L and R).
Sound is OK when I use TV speakers, but on stereo amp. I have backround music and no speech sound.

On firmware v3.0.4 the sound worked both ways.

Also I tried to install both versions of firmware v4.0.4 (NO_HD and INC_HD) and problem still remains.
In audio setup i tried both options dowmmix 2CH and passthrough but same result.

If anyone has any suggestion please help!  :)

Jerko

p.s. I don't want to downgrade v4.0.4 to v3.0.4 because on older version some mkv movies doesn't work.

Are these multi-channel audio  files?  The Osiris has reported than downmixing just seems to mean Left and Right, all other channels including Center are dropped.

I know it's obvious, but the analog audio have to come from a digital stream sent to a DAC. So you could try changing the SPDIF and HDMI audio settings to see if some combination triggers the correct stream going to the DAC?

Yes, these mp4 video files have AAC 6ch audio.

I tried to change SPDIF and HDMI (all 4 combination) but I still have same problem.

Is it possible to upload a sample of such a file on mede8er ftp?
See the sticky on top of the Technical Support Section howto upload samples on mede8er ftp.

hi Maasbommel,
Those MP4 (including MOV files with AAC 6ch audio) is downloadable in Apple's Trailers. Trailers like Harry Potter is using 6ch AAC.
I have poor internet connection so I'm grateful that Jere has uploaded sample in FTP.

I am new here because I just bought MED500X. I have exactly the same problem described here: Normal background sounds are available but not the conversations from the amplifiers. While TV audio is normal. I was waiting for the resolution of this issue but it looked like everyone stop discussing this.

Any suggested solution?

Rudy

I would suggest going  back to V3 but we have cases recently where going back "retained" the problem even when V3 didn't have the problem before.

Issues like this have to make there way from the Forum, to the Sanji Development Team and then onto Realtek. A solution then requires a modified SDK from Realtek to arrive.

I would try to go back to version 3.0.5 and verify if you see exactly the same.

Hi there,

I am having the exact problem.  Some tomost of my items play, but then there are some that cannot work.  I've checked setings and re-checked, but to no avail.  Please could someone let me know if there is already a fix for this problem or when one will be available.

Thank you,

SAHacksaw

I've read that one or two people have tried that and the problem still persists.  I am very hesitant to go back to a previous version, myself.  If someone has tried it already and it works then I will give it a try, but I would like to know if anyone knows if an update / patch is in the pipeline to rectify this problem.

I love the new version V4.0.4 and would rather not like to go back.  BUT, if I am told that there is no update in the near future and if that is the only way to use my Mede8er then I suppose there is no way around it.

The other problem that I had was that the Internet Radio would not work on version 3.  It did work for some time, but then stopped working.  Internet radio, .avi files and others work well, it's just .mp4 files that will play on the TV speakers via the HDMI, but when I connect the Mede8er to my amplifer through the RCA connectors (red and white) then all vocal does not play.

I have just downgraded to 3.0.5 and it seems to work OK.
