Tips for Mac Users? Post them here!
« on: March 09, 2011, 07:09:28 PM »
In a attempt to support Mac users with a Mede8er I create this post.

Personally I am not a Mac user, but I know several are around here.
Contribute to other Mac users and post your tips and tricks specially for the usage of a Mede8er in combination with a Mac here.

regards,
Maasbommel

PS. ONLY place tips and NO questions here. Questions will be removed as this is only a Tips section and we need to keep it readable.

Tip 1]

As YamJToMede8er is only running on a Microsoft Windows PC, here a good alternative for a movie scraper on the Mac:

Try DuneX:

New Mede8er users on a Mac : you need to install an NTFS driver on your Mac - without this you cannot access the device from your Mac.

Example link :

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/ntfs3g.html

If this link gets outdated or dies, just run a Google search on "ntfs driver mac" and you'll find what you need.

It seems that from version 4.0.4 you can put a HFS+ formatted drive in the mede8er and it works....
Even also when you connect your mede8er by usb to your Mac.

Please make sure you are 110% happy with V4 before doing this. It makes changing back to V3 more difficult than it would be otherwise. It might take time to find a V4 issue you can't live with, so don't make the decsion too early. We do have a few posters who have given up on V4 for the moment becuase of issues they can't live with.

Mede8er not visible in Finder, even though NAS is turned on? Click Go and Connect to Server. Now select Mede8er. You need to select Guest to get access. You can automate this process as follows (its easier than it looks, trust me  ;) :

Open Applications > Automator
Select new Service.
In the top of the screen choose Service receives selected FILES AND FOLDERS in FINDER.
In the library on the left, select Files and Folders. Drag the item Get Specified Servers into the workflow area.
Click Add and specify the server address exactly as follows: smb://guest:@mede8er
(This way you can log in as a guest without specifying username or (empty) password fields etc.)
Click OK.
From the Library on the left, drag the item Connect to Servers into the workflow, beneath the Get Specified Servers item.
The workflow is now complete. Click File > Save As... and name it something like: Connect to Mede8er.

To access your new service easily, you can do the following:
Open your System Preferences > Keyboard and select Services. Under Files and Folders you will now see the service "Connect to Mede8er". Make sure to check the box.
You can now right-click on any file or folder in Finder, and the option to Connect to Mede8er will be there!
