Got it exactly like in those all links. I was digging in network/adapter options and i found something strange. I found about 200 network adapters "microsoft 6to4 adapter". I read something about it (its something like translator between ip v6 and ip v4) and it looks like i can uninstall it. I did it. I clicked about 1 hour and i uninstalled all of those adapters. Restarted PC. And... MEDE8ER and wife laptop is visible in my network. Its visible instant after windows start. So once again, problem solved but hard to say what is solution. I will observe it, for next days, hope it will work forever now. Thanks for your assistance.

I suggest you disable IPV6 completely if you not using it. That should stop you re-creating all those adapters. So are you saying your Med is now networking with the WIN 7 pc as well? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980486

PC (win7) see meder folders, Meder see PC (win 7) folders also. I checked laptop with (XP sp3) - same sitaution - meder can see him and vice versa. All devices are in WORKGROUP.

Well it seems you have found another Paragraph for the Networking Tip! It would be nice if you could wait a bit now before finding another reason for a new paragraph!

Wait a sec with a new paragraph. I will test it for lets say 2 weeks, if there will be no problem u can add it Maybe it's just some random thing, and deleting those adapter was not a real solution

Hi,
I have a similar problem, 2 of my pc's run W7, after weeks of the pc accessing the Mede8er and visa versa, suddenly Mede8er cant see Pc's and visa versa. After rebooting PC and Billion Modem the Mede8er can see and access the Pc, but Pc cant see Mede8er (Error message is" cant find network path"). Out of frustration I setup and old PC with Xp on it, same thing Mede8er can see the PC but the XP pc cant see the Mede8er. In past I never had as much trouble accessing the Pc and visa versa while running XP on the PC, only under W7 and W Vista but then I upgraded to V4. I do think that this problem should be sorted out one way or another. Unstable networking certainly detracts from owning a Mede8er and is a, in my opinion, big negative against the Mede8er. Not all users feel that they are competent enough to fiddle with DNS and IP addresses ETC. as a work around.
Please Mede8er try your level best to sort this out, it is most frustrating that, after having decided what I want to watch I go to the system, only to find that the Mede8er cant see the PC or I decide to do some housekeeping, only to find that the Pc cant access the Mede8er.
Many Thanks, Diapason

Only UPNP is truly Plug'n'play. Workgroup should be in advanced setup for those with the experince to use it. Most home theater kit only use UPNP for that reason. Sanji can't make the problems of workgroup sharing go away. After all Karkal's latest problem had nothing to do with his Med at all. That's the nature of Networking. Your connecting a number of devices and the process is managed by a number of devices. Any one could create a compatibilty problem and bring the whole thing crashing down.
This is why "professionals" as so negative about change. You might want to upgrade the software on your PC at work, but the IT Dept know that any change might create an obscure problem and then "you" would be the one complaining. Professionals would still be using V3 and have PC's using any tweaks they found necessary to make it work in place. V4 would only be used when the IT Dept had tested it in a test network and upgraded or tweaked other kit to match. Their hard work makes it appear to the End Users that it's easy. Connect A to B and voila. The fact A and B have been pre-configured to work through experimentation dosn't cross their minds.

Hi karkal, Thanks for giving this feedback, it seems that we have learned again an extra rootcause for giving network connection troubles. regards, Maasbommel

I had exactly the same issue here. I did an upgrade from 4 final to 4.04 and NAS function was gone. After re-installing 4.04 it just works again! I used the same unpacked image file on the same usb-stick with the same procedure and I didn't reset the router.
I also had the sam issue and used the same solution (using the same USB drive with the same install.img from Mede8er_MED500X_V4.0.4_1026_3March2011_NO_HDaudio.zip). Old firmware was 3.0.2. One additional thing - after first firmware install i didn't get the "NAS on" message after starting the mede8er (stopping/starting NAS didn't help). After the second firmware install (NAS working) i get that message after starting my mede8er. My setup: Mede8er DD v4.04 FW - internal HDD 100Mbit LAN Connection Philips 32PFL8404H - Audio/Video HDMI PC (WinXP) connected via wireless to router So maybe the problem is in the mede8er itself? I also tried to access the mede8er from my mobile phone (android) connected to my network via wireless connection and it didn't work until firmware reinstall - one more reason to doubt the mede8er itself.

Same problem here after installing FW 4.0.4 : i can ping my 500X but not access any of the folders.
Except 500X is directly connected to my windows XP PC via ethernet.
So i guess DNS stuff won't change anything...
Will test FTP to see if it works.
But it's a major bummer to have to chose between a lot of mkv files not playing and NAS not working...

Using 4.0.4 is almost like buying a new player. So a configuration which worked before may need changing. Firstly, re-install again. That can fix a lot of problems.
If you have no router, you will find your PC has been acting as a router and you didn't realise. So just as others have had router issue (no DNS proxy), so can you. You at least can easily install the missing services that are needed.
