Both the other users posting about this had routers with external Modems, and no DNS Proxy. What is your Network like?

SKY have their own modded firmware, and a lot of problems posts from users who where forced to change router when they changed to SKY as their ISP.

Hi
My turn now.

I did some tests. Step by step:
1. I installed Acrylic, set all as it was wrote in your tip.
2. Restarted PC
3. Reinstalled meder to 4.0.4
4. I set meder ip and set meder DNS = my PC IP
 - 1st problem - when i tried to set date to internet time meder hang for infinity time, only one way was unplug it.
 - next time i tried again internet time - same problem
 - next time i skipped internet time.
5. When i tried access from PC to meder it worked. I saw directories, i was able do everything. It looks like Acrylic (also your tip) success.
6. Next problem with this configuarion is that i can't use meder internet radio with PC off (often scenario at my home) cause meder DNS IP is my PC IP which is off Smiley. Changing meder configuarion all the time is not solution for me.
7. It was working so i decided to revered situation.
8. I changed meder DNS address to router IP. Now i was able to set internet time and use internet radio with PC off. Access to meder from PC still worked. After each operation i restared both devices (meder na PC).
9. Next step - i set PC dns ips to provider as it was before. Restart PC. Access skill worked.
10. I stopped Acrylic. Restarted PC. Access still worked.
11. I uninstalled Acrylic. Restared PC. Access still worked. Of course i had an access from meder to PC also.

There is another strange thing. When i had DNS IP on my PC set to 127.0.0.1 (2nd one empty)  and disabled Acrylic i still was able to use internet, WWW still works, email also. Its starane for me Smiley

So, it works now. I [CENSORED]ed up with one thing, before all those tests i should install 4.0.4 once again and test is it working or not with standard settings. But i didn't.
Conclusion. I dont have any Smiley Maybe DNS is a reason but still im not sure that. Maybe something refreshed, maybe another instalation of 4.0.4 had any influence, maybe there is some random reason. Now i will leave it as it is, without Acrylic with standard settings. We will see, i will report any problem or idea connected to this copic.

Ty for your help.

I'm glad you have confirmed this, even if you have now removed it!  Wink

It's difficult to test a workaround is a fix when you don't have the problem. All I could do was test that it didn't stop my system working.

As i wrote i cant confirm 100 % that is a DNS problem. i didnt do proper full test cause of not enough time. Its strange that after unitnstall Acrylic and move back all setings to standard one connection works properly.
I hope some1 else with this problem find a real 100 % sure reason and 100 % solution Smiley

Can you be sure it has been removed completely? I do reguler backups of my OS partition  and in this situation I would go back to  before I installed  it and try again without it.

So I shall have to modify the Tip- Install Acrylic, use it , remove it! No one really cares why a tip  works!

Serioulsy though, you have found a problem sharing the Proxy so I will remove the idea of doing it. I also  found problems if you point to  a hardware proxy as I had suggested was an option.

I do keep digging about on this issue in general. I think my use of the term "DNS failure" is not accurate. I think "DNS Management Failure" is nearer the mark. Components in the network are not using the system as they should. Changing how the DNS system is managed through the use of host files, or acrylic, can be enough to fix it.

By removing the specific software you might have got a reinstall of ip stack software that fixed some other problem......

We really need Kolpamorta to confirm the fix works for him, and then ask  him to remove it as well.

I came across this:-
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172218

So there is no mandatory order for name resolution. That means it's possible for V3 and V4 to have different orders.

I also uninstalled Acrylic and upgraded back from v4.0 to v4.0.4 and now Med NAS share is once again working for me.

Here is the main steps I took:-
1) Upgraded from V4.0 to V4.04 (Med NAS did not work)
2) Installed Acrylic  (Med NAS did not work)
3) Reverted back to V4.0 (Med NAS works)
4) Unistalled Arcylic (Med NAS works)
5) Upgrade back to V4.0.4 (Med NAS works)

Only conclusion I can draw from this is the following:
1) By installing/uninstalling of Acrylic has cleared something.
2) On the first attempt upgrade to V4.0.4 had some sort of network stack problem and by uninstaling V4.0.4 and reinstalling it's fixed something.

Thanks everyone for all the assistance....now to continue with enjoying what the Mede8er was designed for watching high quality movies.

Can be one or both of them......

Well does anyone want to clear their router? It's just that if someone dosn't  reboot their network we can't be sure that acryllic isn't needed to feed the router the correct information in the long term.

Someone should also check their Services to make sure the DNS Service isn't lurking about.

Also are the HOST/LMHOSTS files back to their "pre Tip" state?

I guess they are all busy using their Med's. Roll Eyes

This reminds me a bit of Voyager.

I had the same problems after upgrading to 4,04.

I never changed any settings in my PC, used auto-ip on my med.
After resetting my router and reinstalling 4,04 i´m abled to connect to the med.
So my problems are solved
