Hi all,
I just installed my new Mede8er with an internal hdd. I formatted the hdd and upgraded the firmware to 4.0.4. Streaming from my laptop is alright, but my PC doesn't recognizes the Mede8er server. I wanted to select NAS Modus ON, but it doesn't change from OFF to ON.
Can anybody help me?
Thnx

If you can see the Med from the laptop then the Nas is on. If you can see the laptop from the Med then that also confirms the Med is a part of the network. If you are convinced that you have set up the PC exactly like the laptop according to the beginners guide then you have to move on to the tips section. If the PC is working as a member of the workgroup you should see it from the laptop. If the laptop can't see it then neither will the Med. http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,4014.0.html

Hi Jer1956, Thnx for responding. I'm sorry for the confusion but my PC = my laptop. So, as I was saying I can stream from laptop to Med, but can't read from Med to laptop. If I understood correctly I have to select NAS modus ON for that function, but in my case whenever I select NAS modus ON it stays OFF. So for some reason the NAS modus is not working. Funny thing is it was working yesterday. Can it have something to do with upgrading the firmware? Also I don't know how to set my network shares because I don't know what Username and Password to use ( http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=716cb361bca15590c066170ec93c159b&topic=47.msg163#msg163). Can that be part of the problem? Regards, Erik

Have you shutdown down the Med since the upgrade? Old setup data can create problems after an upgrade. After installing the firmware you should just accept the basic setup questions and power down. Then unplug the mains as you did for the Emergency Install, reconnect and power up. Then go to Setup and use Restore Defaults. Then go through Setup again from the start manually. You can't use Restore Settings with such a major upgrade.
You might have disk issues. The Med might not think it has a hard drive. See what Sys Info on the Med says, and post a copy. In particuler, the disk name, size, and free space.

Hi Jer1956,
I did shut the system down before, but just I tried again. I pressed the on/off button and disconnected the DC. After reconnection I started the system and used Restore Default. Then, I tried manually to select NAS Mode ON. But still the same problem, NAS Mode wouldn't go ON.
Other suggestions?

Hi Jer1956,
I checked the 'system info' and it recognizes the hdd. It says: HDD model: SAMSUNG HD204UI; HDD capacity 2,0TB; HDD free space: 2,0TB. Any other suggestions?
Regards

I would suggest to run chkdsk from a dosbox when your mede8er is attached by usb to your pc. Issues with your filesystem might prevent NAS samba process to start if you have filesystem isssues.
