Login Failed - Fixed
« on: January 27, 2011, 12:42:56 pm »
Hi, been using mede8er 500 for sometime now and its great.  Just had a sudden problem where I can't access my drives in my pc using windows xp pro.  I can see all my drives but when I access them, a login menu pops up asking for name and password.  I haven't change anything on my pc and it was working the night before. I'm still using the 2.xx firmware since it works well. Thanks for your input.

thanks for the reply, checked my network settings, says DHCP not ready, and can't get any IP. Still using the factory installed 2.1 firmware, was hoping to upgrade to V4 until this problem came up.

So is your router working? How long has it been on? Try rebooting it anyway.

Router is on, strange though since I can access the folders in other workstations but not on my pc where the files are. I can see the folders but I cant access files inside.  It ask for a user and password, I tried to set one up but still logon failed.  Router runs during the day but I shut it down at night when I'm done.  Will try to reboot my router.  Btw, can I do a direct firmware upgrade from 2.1 to v4? Thanks for your help.

Fixed the problem, it seems that there was not enough server storage in the pc where files are.  Needed to fix the registry and now files can be accessed.  Thanks for the help.

Found about this problem when I tried to open the server directory from a workstation and got this error "Not enough server storage is available to process this command". You can see the directories but can not open them. This notification error should appear in the pc workstation when you try to access your server/where your files are located, otherwise, your login failed error may be caused by something else

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

To resolve this issue, increase the value of the IRPStackSize registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:

   1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
   2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
If the IRPStackSize entry is not present in this subkey, follow these steps:
         1. Click Edit, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
         2. Type IRPStackSize, and then press ENTER.

Note Type IRPStackSize exactly as it appears. The value name is case sensitive.
   3. Click IRPStackSize, click Edit, and then click Modify.
   4. In the Data Value box, type a larger value, and then click OK.

Note Values may range from 0x1 to 0xC. These values are equivalent to 1 to 12 in decimal notation.

If the problem persists after you complete the previous procedure, increase the value of IRPStackSize more.

After the edit, mede8er can access files without asking for username or password.

I have tried the Registry IRPStackSize and even increased it to f - 15. The problem still persists (Logon Fail - Please enter User name and Password) . Am I not doing something right here. Your specialist input will be appreciated.

I think you got ahead of your self. Siggwiz had already gone though stage 1 - Set up using Beginners Guide, and when that didn't work moved on to Stage 2 Assume DNS/WINS failure, which solves it for most who have problems after Stage 1. It didn't for Siggwiz who found a new reason for having post stage 1 problems.

So we now have "three" stages:-

1)Set up sharing using Beginners Guide
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,766.0.html

If that fails or is unreliable, move on to:-
2)Improve Networking Tip
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,4014.0.html

If that fails, or you can see folders but can't open them, move on to:-
3)Network folders which don't open Tip.
http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php/topic,4427.0.html

Are you at Stage 1 yet?
