I 've had the same thing, no sound on *.MP4 movie files, on both V3.05 and V4 BETA5.
I'm converting the file to WMV now to see what that does.
Oh by the way: after reinstalling firmware things seemed to work again.
Product & firmware version: Mede8er MED500X f/w v3.05 / v4 BETA5
Audio: Optical output > Philips LX-7100 home theater system
Audio setting: SPDIF Passthrough / Night mode OFF
Video: Composite > Old Philips TV
Video setting: 1080p 50Hz,24Hz OFF,4:3 Letterbox
Media Source: Internal HDD
Hard Drive: Samsung HD103SJ 1TB, formatted using Mede8er setup

Ah well, just tried, reinstalling firmware didn't work, neither did changing to Downmix (2ch). So basically, I downloaded a file in both MP4 (h.264) and WMV (invalid video file  ) and still no sound whatsoever. This is making me quite angry to be honest, I bought the Mede8er to get rid of all the SH*T of converting etc. before being able to watch a movie. Now I spent a handful of money and I'm still tweaking and fiddling my ass of  |

It looks like movies with DTS sound give the trouble on SPDIF if I look at your Media Info output.
The other one has AC-3
Did you have the same experience on 3.0.4 version firmware?
