I use YAMJ to Mede8er often to generate folder and about images for movies and series. I have run into an issue though. I have a very large catalog of movies and series already on my mede8er, and I want to generate the artwork for these, but because of the size of this list, it will take a couple of hours to generate all the artwork. Is it possible to set YTM up so that I can replicate the folder structure on my computer, with just the required NFO files in them, and run YTM against that? I have tried before but it seems it won't process a folder that doesn't have a media file in it. Is there possibly a setting to tell it not to check for a video file?
The reason I want to do this is that I don't want to connect my mede8er to my laptop, and then run YTM and wait 5 or 6 hours for it to process the folders, cause I would like to be able to watch the series and movies on my mede8er. It would be ideal if I could replicate the folder structure on my laptop or desktop and then run YTM against that, freeing my mede8er up to be used to watch movies and series.
Is it also possible to tell YTM to skip a folder that doesn't have an NFO file in it?
Any ideas?

A work around for this would be: - make a folder new - when you have new movies without about.jpg and folder.jpg place them into that folder all in their own subfolder - now run Y2M on that folder - after folder.jpg and about.jpg is generated, move those movie folders to the place you want.
Most people with a high speed internet connection don't have that much time to generate and rescan. But if you have a slow internet connection, this might be a good workaround to only generate for those movies you want to.

I already do this for new movies and series, but what about existing ones that I have on my mede8er that i got before YTM? I have over 95 movies and well over 30 series on my Mede8er that all need artwork, which is why i want to replicate the folder structure on my desktop with just NFO files, and run YTM. I don't want to copy them off nor do I want to have my mede8er out of action for so long !

no, you can't do that. YAMJ still need media to generate jukebox (most data used in XML is got from media).

actually you can do it, that's that's how i used to do mine, as long as the NFO file is present in the folders.

Without media, the generated info's data can be wrong, without reflecting parameters from owned media.

can it be done ? is it YAMJ search for media before searching any nfo files for scrapping ? YAMJ just skip folder without media, and generates no data at all ..

You just create a dummy/empty text file in the folder and rename to "movie (year).avi" or something like that...it doesn't have to be the actual movie file itself, then YAMJ works fine. This means you don't need to copy all the actual media back to the PC to get the covertart etc. Sorry I didn't mention this before.

Hi Domino,
I guess this will work, but all the Media icons regarding to video and audio type will not be there. Because that is collected from the original movie contents by Yamj. So you will get the plot descriptions, but not the icons on the bottom.

Yes it works, but only plot/cast/etc .. without proper video/audio info. still need editing in xml per title ..

Yes I know this. But I'm not interested in all that stuff, I just want coverart and plot, so it works for me

Thanks for all the ideas, I guess I need to decide if I want to have all the technical data or not.
