I'm glad it worked for you to.
It is still a temporary solution, because I realy want to upgrade to Windows Live Essentials 2011, but doing so will mean having to sacrifice my Mede8er's network access, and this is something I will not do (better to have 3GB of media over the network than 1GB on a Mede8er hard disk).
So untill the firmware is updated to get around the problem, I'll stick with Windows Live Essentials 2009 (Wave 3).

For those of you who are having "Logon Failed" problems with your Mede8ers, and wish to continue using Windows Live Essentials on your computers, but cannot find the older 2009 version that does not mess-up the Mede8er network access, I've made an offline installer version of Windows Live Essentials 2009 available on my website, especially for Mede8er users. Get it here: http://www.phx.co.za/Note that this is only a temporary solution, and hopefully we'll be able to use Windows Live Essentials 2011 soon if the problem is solved with the V4 firmware. Otherwise we'll have to wait...

Just run into this problem. Started a thread and then searched and found this. Yeah I know - should have been the other way round. Sorry. I don't have the sign in assistant on my PC though. Want to keep messenger and movie maker but delete the rest so experimenting with various combinations now.

I will raise this to the attention of Mede8er, so it can be passed to the devs to see if they can make some patch for the mede8er samba version that is used in Mede8er.
In the meantime when persons are running into this issue, and they are sure that filesharing is configured correctly: - remove Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5 as a workaround from “Add/Remove Programs” in the Control Panel or remove Windows Live Essentials 2011 completely to check if that is causing the filesharing login issue.
regards, Maasbommel
Thanks!!! Just got my Mede8er yesterday, ran into the problem, removed sign-in assistant 6.5, now everthing works like a charm!

Looking at the latest Samba release confirms that this problem was fixed in version 3.5.6 which came out on October the 8th. Hopefully we can either get a confirmation that this has been updated into the firmware (or even better, get a release with it included ) http://samba.org/samba/history/samba-3.5.6.html

I was also having this same issue, and went through the normal checks of firewall, group policies to not deny access from network, testing using laptops etc.
Just want to confirm that Windows essential 2011 was the cause for my "Login failed" issue I experienced. Network access was working after it was uninstalled.
Good to see mede8er developers is making such good progress, keep up the good work!

I hope mede8er staff is working on this and will get a patch for this issue very soon.... ....because for me, removing live asistant is not a solution.
Every games with "Games for Windows Live" included need this [CENSORED] to run.... So, installing/removing a program each time I want either play a game on my PC or watch a stuff with my mede8er is really not a solution...
Hope true solution will come soon !

No news yet as to whether or not the Login Failed problem tied to Windows Live Essentials 2011 has been resolved yet? I see that the v4 firmware is on BETA 5 already, but have not been able to locate a "Bug Fixes" or "Change Log" regarding this, so I'm not able to check...

I just got word this morning that the v4 firmware has been released.
So I downloaded it and installed it into the Mede8er. Then, being the born pessimist that I am, I created a backup image of my computer boot drive, uninstalled Windows Live Essential 2009 and installed Windows Live Essentials 2011.
And my Mede8er worked flawlessly over the network. Thanks you for a great product, and especially thank you for paying attention to what the user say on the forums.
Now all I need to do is work on my Video Wall.
This thread can be marked as solved. Provided of course that user update to the v4 firmware...
